{"id":556106,"date":"2026-06-26T23:57:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T23:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/556106\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T23:57:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T23:57:11","slug":"r-evolution-to-end-its-san-francisco-residency-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/556106\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;R-Evolution&#8217; to end its San Francisco residency in October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The striking, 50-foot-tall \u201cnaked lady\u201d sculpture by a Petaluma artist that is currently installed in San Francisco could be returning to the North Bay this fall \u2014 unless someone decides to buy the controversial artwork after it was put up for sale.<\/p>\n<p>Named \u201cR-Evolution\u201d by Petaluma sculptor Marco Cochrane \u2014 who originally created the 32,000-pound metal artwork for the 2015 Burning Man Festival \u2014 the towering nude has been on display at San Francisco\u2019s Embarcadero Plaza since April 2025. (Don Frances \/ Petaluma Argus-Courier)<\/p>\n<p>As Cochrane prepares to celebrate Pride weekend in San Francisco with an 8-10 p.m. party on Friday, June 26 at the plaza \u2014 featuring music, speakers, roaming performers and a special rainbow light display he designed himself \u2014 word has begun to spread that R-Evolution\u2019s residency in the city will end in October.<\/p>\n<p>According to an announcement from Building 180, the art production and consulting agency that manages the piece, R-Evolution has been \u201con loan\u201d to the city of San Francisco and is now available for purchase. Building 180 is the same group that helped sculptor Cjay Roughgarden find a home for her 100-foot-long sea serpent sculpture Naga \u2014 which had a brief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.petalumanews.com\/2024\/12\/31\/naga-artist-celebrates-big-art-at-fairgrounds-event\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">residency at the Petaluma Fairgrounds<\/a> \u2014 now installed in the Rainbow Falls pond near the JFK Promenade in San Francisco\u2019s Golden Gate Park.<\/p>\n<p>No asking price has been offered, though interested parties are invited to reach out to Cochrane at his website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcocochrane.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">marcocochrane.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cochrane was not immediately available for comment Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Originally intended for Union Square, R-Evolution was instead placed at Embarcadero Plaza when officials decided the weighty art piece could damage Union Square\u2019s historic tiles.
