Larry David<\/a> was so precious about his scripts for his new HBO sketch show, \u201cLife, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,\u201d that not even former President Barack Obama<\/a> could curb his enthusiasm \u2014 and was swiftly shut down by the comedian for trying to give him some notes.<\/p>\n

The duo has long been friends and co-created the show together, and while Obama also happily co-executive-produced the series<\/a> and stars in it, director Jeff Schaffer recalled a hilariously spicy exchange between them in an interview with Variety published Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gave a few notes about something and Larry went, \u2018Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got it,\u2019\u201d Schaffer told the outlet<\/a>. \u201cAnd the president goes, \u2018I spent half an hour talking about how funny everything is. I give you one note and you get into a defensive crouch.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The co-writer, co-creator and director continued, \u201cThe president said, \u2018When I was in the Oval Office, I took advice and listened to my advisors, and I was the president of the United States.\u2019 And Larry just goes, \u2018Yeah, but I\u2019m the president of this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Schaffer said Obama\u2019s input \u201cwas invaluable,\u201d however, and that he had read a bunch of the material and \u201cwas really liking it.\u201d He added that Obama has a \u201cgood rapport\u201d with David, who has nonetheless long established himself as America\u2019s cheekiest curmudgeon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

David recently appeared on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>\u201d and confirmed he and Obama frequently golf together. When David received an invitation to the former president\u2019s 60th birthday, however, he recalled feeling utter anxiety about possibly being expected to perform standup.<\/p>\n

The \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm<\/a>\u201d creator told Kimmel he was overjoyed<\/a> when he got disinvited.<\/p>\n

David has tackled all sorts of political taboos across 12 seasons of \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm,\u201d but appeared to truly rustle some MAGA feathers<\/a> by telling Variety that he was \u201cembarrassed to be an American\u201d<\/a> following recent UFC fights held on the White House lawn.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a travesty,\u201d he told the outlet<\/a>. \u201cWhat else can you say about it?
