\n\tGracie Abrams<\/a>, the daughter of \u201cStar Trek\u201d director J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot co-CEO Kaite McGrath, recently told The New York Times\u2019 \u201cPopcast\u201d<\/a> that she understands the online discourse about her nepotism.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe nepo stuff is obviously in the discourse, appropriately,\u201d Abrams said. \u201cI think about the privilege there, and it\u2019s like, I had a safety net, and that allowed me the ability to experiment, and concentrate, and I had the gift of time to dedicate to doing this thing I loved. I wasn\u2019t growing up afraid financially, and that\u2019s the biggest deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe explained that beyond the financial stability, she also grew up surrounded by the entertainment business, which gave her an advantage when building her music career as an adult.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe specific household that I was born into, with my parents both having worked in the entertainment industry for as long as I\u2019ve been alive,\u201d Abrams said. \u201cLike the way that you overhear your family talking about anything, like at the dinner table or in the car on the way to school, there is just this vocabulary that I was so lucky to grow up with.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAbrams added, \u201cWhen I see people pointing that out, it\u2019s like: I get it, hardcore. The jokes and things, I also understand. I\u2019m like, \u2018Go crazy.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe later admitted that sometimes \u201cthe tone of the internet\u201d can be a bit overwhelming, and she sometimes needs to tune out the negativity in her social media feed.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is funny when it overwhelms the things you actually want to see [online],\u201d Abrams said. \u201cBecause my name is my name, your algorithm is just naturally being like \u2014 you\u2019re being like force fed. And there are some days where I\u2019m laughing just as hard as the person posting it. And there\u2019s other times where like \u2014 we\u2019re all people.
