Renowned video game creator and cinephile Hideo Kojima<\/strong> recently reviewed Supergirl<\/a><\/strong>. He shared his thoughts on social media, likening its premise and themes to an iconic Western movie. Accordingly, he brought a unique perspective to the early reviews for the movie. The latest DCU film recently premiered in theaters, drawing a mixed response from both critics and fans.<\/p>\n

Hideo Kojima shares review after watching Supergirl in IMAX<\/p>\n

The Metal Gear creator shared his review of Supergirl on social media, confirming he saw the latest DCU film in IMAX.<\/p>\n

On X (formerly Twitter), Kojima stated, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t a \u2018superhero movie\u2019 about saving the Earth through self-sacrifice as \u2018justice\u2019 confronts \u2018evil.’\u201d He added that it was a coming-of-age story about Kara saving herself and how she struggled with her trauma.<\/p>\n

Kojima further stated that on a structural level, it felt less similar to Mad Max: Fury Road, whose characters were motivated \u201cpurely by survival instinct beyond notions of good and evil\u201d and more like Clint Eastwood\u2019s The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, \u201cwhere heroes, villains, and scoundrels all converge.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of this writing, Supergirl shows a 56% rotten critical score and a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>. Many critics appear to agree that Milly Alcock\u2019s portrayal of the titular character is the film\u2019s most successful aspect. However, other issues within the movie divided reviews.<\/p>\n

Rachel Walshe of Film Ireland<\/a> wrote that fans looking for a fun action movie with a \u201cgood soundtrack and well-acted cast\u201d will enjoy it. However, she added that while it is \u201cgood,\u201d it could have been \u201cgreat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, SuperHeroHype\u2019s Matt Morrison<\/a> called the movie \u201ca worthy entry in the DCU canon\u201d and noted that it is \u201cbetter paced and more engaging\u201d when compared to its source material, the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Brian Eggert of Deep Focus<\/a> wrote in his review that \u201cThe writer and director fail to deliver the goods, leaving Supergirl, yet again, with an underwhelming adaptation from page to screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Supergirl is currently playing in theaters.<\/p>\n
