The new rules came into effect on 29 June.<\/p>\n<p>The Centre notified the EPF Scheme, 2026, replacing the decades-old EPF Scheme, 1952, as part of the implementation of the Code on Social Security, 2020. <\/p>\n<p>Under the new regulations,<a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epf-scheme-2026-simplifies-withdrawals-strengthens-digital-compliance-under-labour-code-framework-11782918064393.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"EPFO members\"> EPFO members<\/a> can make partial withdrawals for several important reasons. However, members must maintain a minimum balance of 25% of their eligible member balance in their EPF account. Any amount calculation for a minimum withdrawal will be done only after setting this balance aside.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if an individual employee has  \u20b91 lakh as an eligible member balance, then  \u20b925,000 out of this balance must remain in the account.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining balance of  \u20b975,000 may be withdrawn in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. <\/p>\n<p>The minimum balance rule applies to both employee and employer contributions. The scheme defines \u2018<a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/epfo-can-subscribers-your-provident-fund-withdrawal-rules-full-100-pc-buffer-25-pc-savings-top-faqs-conditions-explained-11782465596625.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"eligible member balance\">eligible member balance<\/a>\u2019 as the amount available after deducting the compulsory 25% minimum balance.<\/p>\n<p>Housing withdrawals cover several purposes, including buying a house or flat, purchasing a plot for construction, building a home, <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/loan-settlement-debt-resolution-personal-loans-credit-cards-loan-default-debt-trap-credit-score-recovery-agents-11780488051568.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"repaying\">repaying <\/a>a housing loan and carrying out repairs or improvements.<\/p>\n<p>The revised rules also allow members leaving employment before completing 12 months of service to make partial withdrawals under specified conditions.
