{"id":571215,"date":"2026-07-06T08:25:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T08:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/571215\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T08:25:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T08:25:12","slug":"sky-agrees-1-6bn-itv-deal-as-broadcasters-take-on-streaming-rivals-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/571215\/","title":{"rendered":"Sky agrees \u00a31.6bn ITV deal as broadcasters take on streaming rivals \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sky\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/sky\/\">Sky <\/a>has agreed to acquire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/itv\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/itv\/\">ITV<\/a>\u2019s television business for \u00a31.6 billion (\u20ac1.86 billion) in a deal that unites the UK\u2019s two largest commercial broadcasters as they bulk up to fend off the existential threat posed by US streaming giants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/netflix\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/youtube\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/youtube\/\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The combination will leave US media group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/comcast\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/comcast\/\">Comcast<\/a>, which bought Sky in 2018, in control of a broadcaster that reaches 21 million households.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">As well as reaching a wider audience \u2014 across traditional television and streaming \u2014 the deal will enable Sky to attract a greater share of advertising spend at a time when broadcasters are facing an uncertain future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The sale will comprise \u00a31.2 billion in cash initially, in addition to the transfer of Sky\u2019s Love Productions business for an agreed enterprise value of \u00a3200 million.
