For as many shows that Netflix guts after a single season<\/a>, there\u2019s plenty that go on to seasons two, three, and beyond. But there\u2019s a catch to those additional seasons: less people are coming back to see these returning shows.<\/p>\n

On Sunday night, Bloomberg<\/a> published a story covering the trend of Netflix originals\u2019 new seasons losing views in their first four weeks of release.\u00a0Avatar: The Last Airbender<\/a>, whose second season landed in late June, saw a 60% decline in week one views, while One Piece<\/a> and Beef respectively dipped by over 30% and 70% when they came back earlier in 2026. First seasons for One Piece and Avatar were among the streamer\u2019s most-watched shows in 2023 and 2024, respectively.<\/p>\n

So far, Bridgerton is Netflix\u2019s only\u00a0series to return this year and not lose viewers with its latest run of episodes. There\u2019s not been a major hit from its original slate since late January, which has reportedly had investors concerned. Already, the company\u2019s been on the backfoot since it had to back out of acquiring Warner Bros., which it hoped would lead to more subscribers. There\u2019ve been new users, but not a major surge that\u2019s left the company pleased.<\/p>\n

Even so, the causes of its woes aren\u2019t hard to pin down. Whether it\u2019s long waits between seasons, eight-episode runs, or improper marketing, shows are struggling to find an audience<\/a>, much less maintain it so they can get renewed. This isn\u2019t exclusive to Netflix, but much of the issues plaguing current streaming TV were seeded by this streamer\u2014and as such, its flaws stick out more.<\/p>\n
