Elements of this image furnished by NASA<\/p>\n<p class=\"sub-text\"><strong> (NexTser \/ Getty Images)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">If distance was the determining factor, the entire planet would be locked in <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_10\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">winter<\/a> during July, while both hemispheres would bake in a global <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_11\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/summer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">summer<\/a> during January. Instead, the opposite happens: the hemispheres experience completely opposite seasons.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_12\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/how-to-watch-fox-weather-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to EarthSky, Earth\u2019s orbit is &#8220;almost, but not quite, circular,&#8221; meaning its distance from the sun changes only slightly \u2014 &#8220;a little over 3%.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">It&#8217;s the Earth&#8217;s tilt on its axis that produces the seasons.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/gettyimages-695485360.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">The tilt of the Earth&#8217;s axis of seasons is the result from the Earth&#8217;s axis of rotation being tilted with respect to its orbital plane. the northern and southern hemispheres always experience opposite seasons.
