We might still be in the dog days of summer, but fall film<\/a> festival season is already beckoning. Up today: the 51st edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, has announced three world premieres in its Gala Presentations program, including the festival\u2019s opening night selection.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s festival will open with Si\u00e2n Heder<\/a>\u2019s \u201cCODA\u201d follow-up<\/a>, the fact-based Apple Original feature \u201cBeing Heumann.\u201d The film\u2019s world premiere will take place on Thursday, September 10, at Roy Thomson Hall.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to open this year\u2019s festival with Si\u00e2n Heder\u2019s inspiring follow-up to her Oscar-winning \u2018CODA,\u2019\u201d said Cameron Bailey, CEO, TIFF<\/a> in an official statement. \u201c\u2018Being Heumann\u2019 features an electric performance from Ruth Madeley in the story of Judy Heumann, a world-changing advocate for accessibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s other additions include the Cynthia Erivo-starring \u201cPrima Facie\u201d from British director Susanna White (\u201cWoman Walks Ahead,\u201d TIFF \u201917) and \u201cThe Assassin(s)\u201d from Korean filmmaker Hur Jin-ho (\u201cA Normal Family,\u201d TIFF \u201923). Many more lineup announcements will be shared in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

TIFF returns this September 10\u201320. On the last day of the fest, TIFF will announce its award winners including the popular People\u2019s Choice Awards, presented by Rogers, which last year had Toronto audiences choosing Chlo\u00e9 Zhao\u2019s \u201cHamnet\u201d as their top pick.<\/a><\/p>\n

New this year, a non-English-language winner of TIFF\u2019s Platform Award can directly qualify for Best International Feature Film at the upcoming 99th Academy Awards. Also returning are the esteemed Jury Prizes and honors from FIPRESCI and NETPAC.<\/p>\n
