{"id":575108,"date":"2026-07-08T12:55:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T12:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/575108\/"},"modified":"2026-07-08T12:55:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T12:55:07","slug":"cork-hurling-review-called-for-at-cork-county-board-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/575108\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork hurling review called for at Cork County Board meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A review of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/cork-gaa_topic-5084534.html\">Cork hurling<\/a> was called for at Tuesday evening\u2019s Cork County Board meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The review suggestion was similar to last year when club delegates looked for a special meeting devoted to Cork football.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In July of last year, and in response to repeated calls for a detailed examination of Cork football, the executive produced a 2,000-word report on the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/sport\/gaa\/arid-41673611.html\">state of Cork football<\/a> which admitted that two of the key pillars of the 2019-24 five-year plan had not been met.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Whether any future meeting of the county board prioritises a Cork hurling discussion remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Separately at this month\u2019s meeting of the Cork County Board, the executive said that with all Cork teams finished for the year, the annual review of the respective inter-county campaigns will now take place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They were urged from the floor not to delay in carrying out these reviews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Saturday&#8217;s 11-point All-Ireland semi-final hammering to Galway concluded a Cork hurling year where the seniors reached the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/sport\/gaa\/arid-41822477.html\">National League<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/sport\/gaa\/arid-41858403.html\">Munster SHC<\/a> finals, both of which were lost to Limerick; the U20s were <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/sport\/gaa\/arid-41840583.html\">knocked out at the Munster semi-final stage<\/a> by eventual All-Ireland champions Clare, while the minors <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/sport\/gaa\/arid-41862114.html\">came off second best to Tipp<\/a> in the All-Ireland semi-final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">An appointments committee will deal with any Cork managerial vacancies ahead of 2027. U20 hurling boss Noel Furlong has completed the two-year term he was given when appointed ahead of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/sport\/gaa\/arid-41874332.html\">All-Ireland winning<\/a> minor manager Keith Ricken, who was present at Tuesday\u2019s meeting along with winning captain Joe Miskella, has also completed the two-year term he was given when taking over at the beginning of last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A review of Cork hurling was called for at Tuesday evening\u2019s Cork County Board meeting.
