The details presented in court<\/a> in the trial of a Dublin man for the killing of Mackenzie Michalski (31) were harrowing. <\/p>\n

The American nurse was travelling around Europe with friends and was on her last night in Budapest when, on November 4th, 2024, she met the 37-year-old man from Dublin in a bar. <\/p>\n

Later they went back to his apartment where he killed her. An autopsy found she had suffocated after he strangled her for at least two to three minutes. He then went to great lengths to hide his crime including cleaning the apartment and disposing of her body.<\/p>\n

When later questioned, he admitted kissing her dead body and it is thought he could have been in bed with the victim for up to four hours after her death. The police found disturbing footage of her naked, tied-up and lifeless body on his phone. <\/p>\n

The judge rejected his defence that Mackenzie had died during consensual \u201crough\u201d sex. <\/p>\n

Budapest-based journalist B\u00e1lint D\u00f6m\u00f6t\u00f6r has been in court for the trial and the verdict and he explains why, when the man has been found guilty, he still cannot be named.<\/p>\n
