{"id":581353,"date":"2026-07-12T04:50:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-12T04:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/581353\/"},"modified":"2026-07-12T04:50:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T04:50:16","slug":"west-cork-properties-considered-for-derelict-sites-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/581353\/","title":{"rendered":"West Cork properties considered for derelict sites register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">A further 36 properties across West Cork are being considered for inclusion on Cork County Council\u2019s\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41877398.html\">derelict sites register<\/a> as the local authority continues efforts to bring vacant and rundown buildings back into use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The latest figures show 24 properties are already listed on the register in the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41866440.html\">West Cork<\/a> Municipal District, while a further 36 are under investigation for possible inclusion.The largest number of properties being assessed are in Schull, Skibbereen, and Drimoleague, with five in each area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Three are under consideration in Ballinascarthy, Ballineen, and Cape Clear, while four are being examined in Baltimore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The council\u2019s existing register includes eight properties in Dunmanway, five in Bantry, four each in Clonakilty, and Skibbereen, and one each in Baltimore, Castletownbere, and Enniskeane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The figures, revealed in a report presented at the recent meeting of the municipal district, also show efforts to tackle vacancy are beginning to bear fruit. So far this year, works have been carried out on three properties following engagement by the council\u2019s town regeneration office, while works are under way on another 11 buildings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Up for sale<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Fifteen properties have been put up for sale following council engagement and 12 have already been sold. The report also highlights growing interest in the vacant property refurbishment grant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">A total of 63 applications have been received in the West Cork Municipal District this year, with 32 approved so far.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Since the scheme was launched, 464 applications have been received, 350 have been approved, and grants have been paid on 114 properties.
