KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 \u2014 A stretch of road on Penang island briefly turned into a film set on July 11 when American actor Mark Wahlberg arrived to shoot scenes for The Big Fix, a forthcoming Netflix crime thriller.<\/p>\n
Passers-by recorded the activity as Wahlberg stepped out of a vehicle and entered a shop, prompting a wave of posts across Facebook, TikTok and X.<\/p>\n
The clips showed a sizeable crew at work, with lighting towers, camera rigs and a lifting platform occupying part of the cordoned-off street. Several roads were temporarily closed to facilitate the shoot, according to onlookers.<\/p>\n
The Penang stop is understood to be one of several international locations used for the film, which is primarily based in Sydney.<\/p>\n
The production follows an Interpol officer linked to Fifa who uncovers a global match\u2011fixing network \u2014 a storyline that spans multiple countries.\u2028\u2028Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk A. Rajendran told \u00a0local media that filming began on Friday, July 10, and is expected to continue for about two weeks.<\/p>\n
He said locations include Lorong Kulit, City Stadium, Batu Kawan Stadium, and Macallum Field, among others.<\/p>\n
National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chairman Datuk Hans Isaac also appeared to confirm the production\u2019s presence in Malaysia after commenting on a post: \u201cWas nice to have met you on set yesterday and taking that photo with our Malaysian National Film Board team.\u201d\u2028\u2028Wahlberg also posted an Instagram video showing him with Rev Fr Michael Raymond, parish priest of Penang\u2019s Church of Divine Mercy.<\/p>\n

Wahlberg stars alongside British actor Riz Ahmed, with supporting roles filled by Singapore\u2019s Chin Han, India\u2019s Vipin Sharma and Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman, who is based in the United States.<\/p>\n
The 53\u2011year\u2011old actor, known for titles such as The Departed, Transformers and Ted, has been filming selected sequences outside Australia as part of the movie\u2019s broader narrative.<\/p>\n
