Prince Harry is on a mission to make sure the royal family feud<\/a> is a thing of the past.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 10, the Duke of Sussex and King Charles III shared their first moment together after 19 months apart. The Daily Mail<\/a> reported that it was a 54-minute meeting over a cup of tea at Clarence House in London. They described it as a \u201crebuilding [of] their father-and-son relationship<\/a>.\u201d The visit was a huge improvement over Harry\u2019s allotted 15-minute audience with Charles after his cancer diagnosis in February 2024.<\/p>\n

Still, there were ground rules to yesterday\u2019s reunion. \u201cHe has told his father he won\u2019t be giving any interviews about it and his team have been instructed not to brief journalists about what was said,\u201d a palace insider told the U.K. publication. \u201cThere\u2019s a long way to go before Harry can earn his family\u2019s trust, but he\u2019s given some assurances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of these assurances likely came out of July\u2019s royal peace talks<\/a> in London between the Sussexes\u2019 chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and their PR representative in the U.K., Liam Maguire, who met with the monarch\u2019s communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae. The paparazzi documented the meeting, and Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly \u201cfrustrated\u201d that the secret talks were made public, per Page Six.<\/a><\/p>\n

Harry seemed to take the first step in May when he spoke with the BBC<\/a> about his wishes to heal the family wounds. \u201cThere\u2019s no point in continuing to fight anymore,\u201d the Duke of Sussex said in May about Charles\u2019 health battle. \u201cI don\u2019t know how much longer my father has.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even with Harry and Charles\u2019 discretion over their reunion, there\u2019s a lot of chatter about Prince William and his reluctance to speak<\/a> with his younger brother. \u201cWilliam is done with Harry. When he becomes King, everybody thinks the divide will become even wider,\u201d a royal source told Us Weekly<\/a> in August.<\/p>\n

Still, royal experts think William is making a mistake. Duncan Larcombe, the former royal editor for The Sun, told The Daily Beast<\/a> in June 2022 that William \u201chas to start showing some leadership<\/a>\u201d when it comes to brokering peace with Harry. \u201cWilliam has got a lot more to lose than Harry,\u201d he explained. \u201cThe monarchy could be lost on his watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Harry and Charles moving forward peacefully behind closed doors, it\u2019s time for William to follow in his father\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n
