The famous South Pole Inn pub in Annascaul is up for sale.<\/p>\n

The Annascaul pub, The South Pole Inn, which was opened by legendary Antarctic explorer and Kerry native Tom Crean, is up for sale.<\/p>\n

The landmark pub in West Kerry, which Crean opened after he returned from Endurance his third and final expedition to Antarctica, is a mecca for fans of the legendary Annascaul man and it is jam packed with memorabilia from the great man\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

It was in 1929 that Crean built upon the foundations of the existing licensed premises he\u2019d operated since receiving his license to sell wines, beers, cider and spirits in 1917, becoming \u2018The South Pole Inn\u2019 that we know today.<\/p>\n

In 1926, Crean reportedly put the premises on the market for auction but apparently had a change of heart and remained. After his death in 1938, the licence was then transferred to his wife Nell who ran the pub until selling the premises in 1948. It has changed ownership a number of times since.<\/p>\n

The interior of the pub is distinguished by imagery depicting Crean and his Antarctic expeditions. Directly opposite the premises then stands the Tom Crean Memorial Garden, which features a bronze statue of Crean holding his sled puppies.<\/p>\n

The asking price for the building is \u20ac450,000 with the online advert for the building describing it as \u201ca landmark property\u201d that needs little to no introduction.<\/p>\n
