{"id":585928,"date":"2026-07-14T22:29:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-14T22:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/585928\/"},"modified":"2026-07-14T22:29:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-14T22:29:11","slug":"multiple-fire-units-respond-to-large-wildfire-at-killarney-national-park-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/585928\/","title":{"rendered":"Multiple fire units respond to large wildfire at Killarney National Park \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Several fire service units  from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/killarney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/killarney\/\">Killarney<\/a> and surrounding towns in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kerry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kerry\/\">Co Kerry<\/a> are battling a large <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/weather-events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/weather-events\/\">wildfire<\/a> in the Five Mile Bridge\/Moll\u2019s Gap area of the Killarney National Park. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Helicopters from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) were dispatched to the scene. Two later arrived to help protect some of the oldest oakwoods in Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The area was devastated in April 2021 and the oakwoods narrowly avoided serious damage. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The fire spread along a wide area on Tuesday evening and concern was mounting due to strengthening winds in the Muckross\/Killarney area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kerry-county-council\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kerry-county-council\">Kerry County Council<\/a> closed the main N71 Killarney to Kenmare road between the major tourist destinations of Moll\u2019s Gap and Muckross House.
