I took John\u2019s advice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLooking back, Jagger admitted that it \u201cwas really stupid of me\u201d because he would \u201chave loved to have met Elvis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe rocker said that Lennon would often tell him the story of when the Beatles met Presley at his mansion in Bel Air, Los Angeles. O\u2019Brien, who helped add in a few details from the visit that took place during the Beatles\u2019 1965 U.S. tour, suggested that Lennon was \u201cdisappointed\u201d by the encounter. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI wanted to keep my Elvis to myself, my version of Elvis,\u201d Jagger said. \u201cI didn\u2019t want my version of Elvis shattered like John\u2019s was. But maybe my Elvis version would have been different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAccording to Tony Barrow, the Beatles\u2019 press officer in the 1960s, the band\u2019s encounter with Presley was underwhelming. \u201cJohn asked what had happened to the old rock \u2019n\u2019 roll Elvis, who at that point was mainly singing the soundtracks to his films,\u201d Barrow\u00a0told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2011\/oct\/04\/beatles-met-elvis-liverpool-exhibition\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a>. \u201cHe was half-joking, but he meant it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLuckily, things got better after Presley brought out guitars and everyone began jamming. \u201cThat is when the party took off,\u201d Barrow said. \u201cWith words, they didn\u2019t have much to say. But as soon as they got into the music, the conversation began to spark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tDespite the jam sesh, it was clear that Lennon\u2019s expectations of Presley hadn\u2019t been met: \u201cJohn said it had been about as exciting as meeting Engelbert Humperdinck.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mick Jagger had a missed connection with the King.
