\n\tDanny Boyle<\/a>\u2018s \u201cInk,\u201d starring Jack O\u2019Connell<\/a>, Guy Pearce<\/a> and Claire Foy, will open the 83rd Venice Film Festival<\/a>, which runs Sept. 2-12. The film will world premiere in the main competition section.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cInk,\u201d about the acquisition and transformation of The Sun newspaper by Rupert Murdoch, is written by multi-Olivier award-winning playwright and screenwriter James Graham (\u201cDear England,\u201d \u201cSherwood,\u201d \u201cBrexit\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Connell stars as The Sun editor Larry Lamb with Pearce as Murdoch, and Foy as Jules Davies.<\/p>\n

\n\tBoyle said Graham\u2019s script was one he \u201cfelt compelled and privileged to make.\u201d He set the scene, as follows, \u201c1969 \u2013 the year we first walked on the moon \u2013 and the year Rupert Murdoch and Larry Lamb launched a newspaper that was to change the world far more. Long before Fox News, click bait and Truth Social; decades before Twitter, Facebook, Google and Only Fans, these two men created a new tabloid which against all the odds became the biggest selling newspaper in the world. Cheeky, irreverent, daring: The super soaraway Sun challenged the establishment and remade our world for the modern era.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVenice chief Alberto Barbera said, \u201cAn Oscar-winning director, one of the leading playwrights on the London theater scene, and three of the most acclaimed actors in contemporary British cinema \u2014 these are the credentials behind Danny Boyle\u2019s film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cIt is an account of publisher Rupert Murdoch\u2019s acquisition of the daily newspaper The Sun, which he entrusted to the unscrupulous Larry Lamb, turning it into Britain\u2019s best-selling tabloid at the expense of its rival, The Mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is produced by Studiocanal, Media Res and House Productions.<\/p>\n

\n\tStudiocanal will release \u201cInk\u201d theatrically in their territories of Italy, the U.K., France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand. It will be released in Italy by Lucky Red.<\/p>\n

\n\tBoyle produces with Tessa Ross (\u201cConclave,\u201d \u201cThe Iron Claw,\u201d \u201cZone of Interest\u201d) and Michael Ellenberg (\u201cThe Morning Show,\u201d \u201cPachinko\u201d). The film reunites Boyle and Ross following their collaboration on \u201cSlumdog Millionaire.\u201d Tracey Seaward (\u201cThe Two Popes,\u201d \u201cPhilomena,\u201d \u201cPistol\u201d) also produces. Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin of Studiocanal, Tonia Davis, Zoe Edwards, Graham and Sudie Smyth of Studiocanal are executive producers.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlwin H. K\u00fcchler (\u201cSteve Jobs\u201d) is DP, Gareth Pugh and Carson McColl (\u201c28 Years Later\u201d) are production and costume designers, and Fin Oates (\u201cHow to Have Sex,\u201d \u201cWarfare\u201d) is the editor. Gail Stevens and Rebecca Farhall (\u201c28 Years Later\u201d) cast the film. Music is by Daniel Pemberton.<\/p>\n
