{"id":592638,"date":"2026-07-18T21:41:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T21:41:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/592638\/"},"modified":"2026-07-18T21:41:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T21:41:14","slug":"shock-and-sadness-following-sudden-death-of-beloved-teacher-29-who-touched-the-lives-of-so-many","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/592638\/","title":{"rendered":"Shock and sadness following sudden death of beloved teacher, 29, &#8216;who touched the lives of so many&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 29=year-old primary school teacher has been remembered for &#8220;her kindness, her gentle nature, and the incredible patience she had with the kids&#8221;<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Roisin McKelvey\" loading=\"eager\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/0_604cf4fe-10e6-4f09-96cf-436651d2033e_d7fd1455ad75061c5a12beb57d7a8d5df10072b70435c644jpeg.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Roisin McKelvey\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Roisin McKelvey<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A school in <a aria-label=\"Co DonegalLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/donegal\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Co Donegal<\/a> has led tributes following the sudden death of a beloved young teacher &#8220;whose kind heart, beautiful smile and generous nature touched the lives of so many&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">R\u00f3is\u00edn McKelvey, from Terhillion in Termon, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 16, .at the age of just 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Her family announced the tragic news in a notice shared on RIP.ie as they paid tribute to R\u00f3is\u00edn, who has been remembered as &#8220;a truly special young woman&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;The death has occurred of: R\u00f3is\u00edn McKelvey, Terhillion, Termon (formally Cummeen, Doochary) unexpectedly, on 16 of July, aged 29,&#8221; the death notice read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Beloved and cherished daughter of Neil and Eileen, dearly loved sister of Brendan and Megan, fondly valued sister-in-law of Cathal, adored aunt of Hannah, and much-loved granddaughter of M\u00e1ire McGill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Heartbreakingly missed and forever loved by her family, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours and her many dear friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;R\u00f3is\u00edn was a truly special young woman whose kind heart, beautiful smile and generous nature touched the lives of so many. She will be remembered with immense love and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tributes have poured in for the popular young teacher\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/751112477_1568225565090644_7326438550344350725_n-1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Tributes have poured in for the popular young teacher\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Tributes have poured in for the popular young teacher<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">R\u00f3is\u00edn worked as a teacher at Scoil Colmcille, a boys&#8217; primary school located in Letterkenny, where she made a huge impression on her pupils and co-workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The school have paid tribute to the popular educator as they issued a statement which read: &#8220;It is with profound sadness that the Board of Management, staff, pupils and the entire Scoil Cholmcille community have learned of the passing of our much-loved colleague, Miss R\u00f3is\u00edn Mc Kelvey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;At this time of immense loss, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;May her gentle soul rest in peace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A number of Rosisin&#8217;s former pupils have shared their own tributes to the young woman, with one mourner writing: &#8220;I would like to send my dearest condolences to Ms. McKelvey\u2019s family. Ms. McKelvey was my senior infants and first class teacher and I\u2019ve learned so many things from her. She was an incredible teacher and she was my favourite and always had a smile on her face. She had the biggest impact on me in primary school and she will missed dearly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Another person added: &#8220;I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Ms McKelvey&#8217;s family. Ms McKelvey was my first teacher, she was also my favourite teacher and I will always remember her kindness and the happy memories she gave me. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace. Thinking of all her family and loved ones at this very sad time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">While a third said: &#8220;I wanted to offer my condolences to you and family during this time . Ms McKelvey was a very special and wonderful teacher to me, she made such a positive impact on my life. I will always cherish the memories we made together. My condolences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Roisin, who graduated from the Marino Institute of Education, began her teaching career working at Rutland National School in Dublin city centre, with a number of her former co-workers remembering the joy she brought to the classroom and the impact she had on her pupils.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Deepest condolences to the McKelvey family on the passing of Roisin. I had the pleasure of working with Roisin in Rutland NS. Roisin was a very talented teacher whom the children loved so very much. May Roisin rest in eternal peace,&#8221; one person said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Another added: &#8220;Incredibly sad to hear about R\u00f3is\u00edn\u2019s passing. R\u00f3is\u00edn was a fantastic teacher and the kindest person. I have many fond memories working with R\u00f3is\u00edn as we navigated our first year teaching. She left such a lasting impact on the students that she taught. May her gentle soul rest in peace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">While a third said: &#8220;Heartbreaking to hear of R\u00f3is\u00edn&#8217;s passing. Her gang were always bursting through the door in the mornings excited for the day ahead\u2026 she had a gorgeous way with them.
