Reuse of the picture may require further permission from the copyright holder.\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tThe anonymous buyer is \u2018thrilled\u2019 with his purchase (Picture: PA)<\/p>\n<p>The charity said bidding \u2018quickly gathered pace\u2019, with the artwork selling for \u00a341,160.<\/p>\n<p>The Salvation Army has said the buyer, who has asked to remain anonymous, is \u2018thrilled with his purchase\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018I\u2019ve admired\u00a0David\u00a0Hockney\u2019s <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/work\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">work<\/a> for many years, so acquiring such an iconic piece is incredibly special.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m delighted that, at the same time, the purchase will help support the invaluable work of The Salvation Army. (Photo by LEON NEAL \/ AFP via Getty Images)\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tHockney died on June 11 at his home (Picture: AFP)<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m delighted that something hidden away for so long will now help raise money for people in our community who need it most.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Published in 1980, Paper Pools details some of\u00a0Hockney\u2019s most celebrated swimming pool artworks. <\/p>\n<p>The original signed print enclosed within the book made it an \u2018exceptionally rare collector\u2019s piece\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Major Tracey Bale, who leads The Salvation Army\u2019s Norwich Citadel and works closely with staff at the shop, said: \u2018Jemma\u2019s knowledge and curiosity made all the difference. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Thanks to her recognising that this was far more than an ordinary donated book, an incredible piece of art has been preserved and transformed into vital funds for our work.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Our volunteers see thousands of donations every week, and this story highlights the expertise, care and dedication they bring every single day. Every donation matters, and occasionally one arrives that has an extraordinary story to tell.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>One of the most celebrated and influential British artists of modern times,\u00a0Hockney\u00a0died peacefully at home on June 11. During his lifetime,\u00a0Hockney\u00a0was lauded for his use of different formats, embracing digital art and iPads as much as traditional painting.<\/p>\n<p>He trained at the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/bradford\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bradford<\/a> School of Art in the 1950s, then at the Royal College of Art in\u00a0London, where he graduated with a gold medal\u00a0in 1962 and subsequently emerged as one of the seminal talents in the new generation of British
