At its peak in June, more than 50% of its daily uploads were AI tracks.

That’s an average of 90,000 new AI-generated tracks every single day, with the usual implication that if this is the case for Deezer, it’s likely also the kind of volume being seen by its bigger rivals including Spotify and Apple Music.

The milestone has spurred a change in Deezer’s policies regarding this music. It will now be removing GenAI tracks that “haven’t been streamed for six months or more” as well as those that it detects are being used for streaming fraud.

The number of fully AI-generated tracks being uploaded to Deezer is growing. 90k a day is up from 75k in April, and a ninefold increase from the 10k a day that were being uploaded in January 2025 – just 16 months ago.

However, it’s important to note that the share of Deezer’s streams for this music is not increasing. The company says it’s still between 1% and 3% of its total streams, with up to 85% of the AI-music streams being “fraudulent”. Both of these figures are unchanged from previous recent updates.

Deezer is continuing to tag tracks that it detects as AI music, and keep them out of its algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. However, removing the songs that aren’t being played at all is a key step towards declogging its catalogue.

“We have reached a pivotal moment, but we have the technology to keep track of the development, and an ambition to do what’s right,” said CEO Alexis Lanternier.

Spotify said last September that it had removed more than 75 million “spammy” tracks from its service in the previous year – a figure that includes AI music but also other things: duplicated tracks, or tracks using “SEO tricks to manipulate search or recommendation systems”.

Apple Music recently said that “more than a third” of its monthly uploads of new music were “100% AI”, but that this music accounted for “much lower” than 0.5% of the service’s streams.

Deezer’s latest numbers will increase the music industry’s desire to ensure AI music is transparently labelled, although as we reported last week, the industry bodies behind the idea have some work to do to persuade Spotify, Apple Music and their fellow DSPs to adopt its proposed labelling system rather than their own.

Related Stories

Deezer has published its latest figures on the increasing torrent of AI-generated music – and it’s a significant tipping…

[74
289,42217,18,19,17,252079,82,7
post-596522","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-technology","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-deezer","tag-eire","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-music-streaming-economy","tag-technology","tag-top-stories
["GET
