An \u201cexcellent\u201d Irish drama has just been given a promising update.<\/p>\n

Marian Keyes\u2019 beloved series<\/a> The Walsh Sisters was brought to life last year, starring Derry Girls actress Louisa Harland<\/a> and House of Guinness star Danille Galligan.<\/p>\n

Set in their Dublin hometown, the first season introduced the dysfunctional yet lovable family, with Rachel (Caroline Menton) facing drug addiction and Anna (Louisa) overcoming grief after her boyfriend\u2019s death, while they navigate life with their devout mother and bemused father.<\/p>\n

Along with sisters Maggie (Stefanie Preissner), Claire (Danille Galligan) and Helen (M\u00e1ir\u00e9ad Tyers), they navigate their own dramas, past traumas, family and friendships, and the peaks and troughs of their 20s and 30s.<\/p>\n

The BBC synopsis teases: \u201cThey don\u2019t always get along, but they always have each other\u2019s backs. Five Irish sisters navigate heartbreak, grudges and glorious chaos \u2013 inspired by Marian Keyes\u2019s bestsellers.\u201d<\/p>\n

It goes on: \u201cThis is a sisterhood full of in-jokes, hand-me-down resentments and more than a few old wounds. But their DNA, history and shared love of power ballads keep the Walsh sisters together in the face of heartbreak, grief, addiction and parenthood.\u201d<\/p>\n

RT\u00c9 has now confirmed a second season will be following, with The Walsh Sisters back in production.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir lives evolve after the twin dramas of a stint in rehab for Rachel and a life-altering tragedy for Anna,\u201d an announcement teased.<\/p>\n

This comes after author Marian hinted at wanting her storylines to develop onto screen further, when the first season made its way onto the BBC.<\/p>\n

She joked: \u201cI kind of feel like I\u2019ve overdosed on my luck,\u201d as she reflected on how long it took for this series to come about, with the first book of the series having been published in 1995.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cThere\u2019s a part in Rachel\u2019s Holiday, if the second series gets made\u2026 Daddy Walsh joins a local am-dram group, which is doing Oklahoma, and he method acts his way to his rehearsals and all, and he talks in an Oklahoma accent and wears a cowboy hat.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would give anything for that to be made, I would find that so, so funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stefanie, who wrote the series as well as playing Maggie, added: \u201cI\u2019m hoping by the end of episode six, there\u2019s still more, it\u2019s not stuff that we can\u2019t make.\u201d<\/p>\n
