{"id":59958,"date":"2025-09-12T17:32:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/59958\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T17:32:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:32:06","slug":"louis-partridge-on-house-of-guinness-pride-prejudice-olivia-rodrigo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/59958\/","title":{"rendered":"Louis Partridge on House of Guinness, Pride &#038; Prejudice, Olivia Rodrigo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/louis-partridge\/\" id=\"auto-tag_louis-partridge\" data-tag=\"louis-partridge\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Louis Partridge<\/a> is feeling protective of George Wickham, the notorious knave he plays in Netflix\u2019s all-star adaptation of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/pride-and-prejudice\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pride-and-prejudice\" data-tag=\"pride-and-prejudice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pride and Prejudice<\/a>,\u201d currently in production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cYeah, he is a bit of a shit \u2026 but I think he possibly means all the lovely things he says to girls before he leaves them,\u201d suggests the Londoner somewhat optimistically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNot only is Partridge hoping to offer the ruinous flirt a splash of humanity, but he even smothered himself in superstrength SPF 75 sunscreen for Wickham\u2019s sake on a recent backpacking trek around Mexico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDuring a break in the rigorous shooting schedule for the limited series, which also stars Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden, Partridge was able to squeeze in the trip with old college friends. But there was one condition: \u201cI had to keep my face out of the sun.\u201d Giving Wickham a nice holiday tan would be a bridge too far for the genteel world of Jane Austen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe jaunt \u2014\u00a0which he had assumed he\u2019d have to bail on \u2014\u00a0was a rare break for the 22-year-old Partridge, who has seen his status as an in-demand actor soar ever since his breakthrough in the YA mystery franchise \u201cEnola Holmes.\u201d However, it meant missing the Venice Film Festival debut of \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d the Noah Baumbach-directed comedy-drama in which he stars alongside George Clooney and Adam Sandler. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCentered around an aging movie star, the film has Partridge playing a younger version of Billy Crudup\u2019s resentful failed actor, who sees an early chance to make it in Hollywood go the way of Clooney. It\u2019s clearly not something Partridge has experienced himself, although he does recall a rival in his formative years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cFor a long time my acting nemesis was Kit Connor,\u201d says Partridge with a chuckle. That was back when both were budding child stars and regularly going for the same roles \u2014\u00a0and with their parents in tow. \u201cHe was always in the room in auditions. It was always me and my mum and him and his mum. And my mum would roll her eyes.\u201d But as he notes, it\u2019s worked out for both himself and the \u201cHeartstopper\u201d star and asserts they\u2019re now \u201creally good buddies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile he may have missed this year\u2019s Venice Film Festival, Partridge did make it there in 2024 for Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n\u2019s Apple TV+ series \u201cDisclaimer,\u201d where he played the young backpacker at the center of the mystery thriller. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe winces as he recalls the premiere, where he had to sit through his own especially steamy sex scene \u201cwith the CEO of bloomin\u2019 Apple, Tim Cook, literally in the seat behind me.\u201d Maybe \u201ceven more harrowing,\u201d he says, was the thought of his girlfriend sitting just a couple rows back. \u201cBut she was very professional about it,\u201d he says coolly. For those not clued in to Partridge\u2019s flashbulb-friendly relationship status, said girlfriend is pop star <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/olivia-rodrigo\/\" id=\"auto-tag_olivia-rodrigo\" data-tag=\"olivia-rodrigo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-variety-2020\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/House-of-Guinness.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"667\" width=\"1000\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tLouis Partridge in \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/house-of-guinness\/\" id=\"auto-tag_house-of-guinness\" data-tag=\"house-of-guinness\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">House of Guinness<\/a>\u2018<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPartridge is now back in the U.K. (and thanks to his high-powered sun lotion \u2014\u00a0which he admits \u201che didn\u2019t even know was a thing\u201d \u2014\u00a0tan-free). It means he\u2019s not only able to join his \u201cPride and Prejudice\u201d co-stars for a few romps around stately homes (the series is mainly shooting in rural England), but also attend the launch of Netflix\u2019s dynastic crime drama \u201cHouse of Guinness.\u201d A sort of alcoholic 19th-century blend of \u201cPeaky Blinders\u201d and \u201cSuccession,\u201d the Steven Knight-created series sees Partridge stepping back into period costume as Edward Guinness, boss of the brewing giant and one of the key figures across an ensemble cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHistorical trappings aside, the role marks a departure from the rakish George Wickham or anyone he\u2019s portrayed before. Edward is \u201cquite a straight, sober character, trying to keep everything in check \u2014 and usually I\u2019m a bit more irresponsible in the roles I play and throw caution to the wind,\u201d Partridge says. \u201cSo it did feel like something quite new for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor all his fast-rising profile and acceleration up the call sheet \u2014 Partridge also returns as Millie Bobby Brown\u2019s love interest Tewkesbury in \u201cEnola Holmes 3,\u201d which shot earlier this year \u2014 he\u2019s acutely aware that for many, he\u2019s still better known for his Grammy-winning partner. \u201cI can handle that,\u201d he says, smiling. As for how he feels being \u201cMr. Olivia Rodrigo,\u201d he says he\u2019s had the title for \u201ca while now. I\u2019m very happy, and I think she is too, so all is good in our world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut their world is far from a normal one. Rodrigo\u2019s song \u201cSo American\u201d was inspired by their relationship, and she gave her \u201cboy from London\u201d a holler during her Glastonbury headlining set this summer. Her on-stage references about adopting the British fondness for having a \u201cpint at noon\u201d and \u201csticky toffee pudding,\u201d he claims, \u201cwas my work.\u201d But the \u201cGlastonbury experience,\u201d he acknowledges, \u201cwas so, so surreal\u201d (he didn\u2019t know the shout-out was coming) and \u201calso such a treat and a joy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt likely won\u2019t be the last surreal moment for Partridge, who recently became a new entry on book- makers\u2019 James Bond lists as Amazon reportedly looks to cast a more youthful superspy for the next installment. Sadly, incoming writer Knight didn\u2019t spend much time on the set of \u201cHouse of Guinness,\u201d so Partridge wasn\u2019t able to throw down any 007 impressions in his vicinity.
