{"id":600253,"date":"2026-07-23T12:14:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T12:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/600253\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T12:14:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T12:14:12","slug":"venice-title-the-difficult-bride-boards-films-boutique-for-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/600253\/","title":{"rendered":"Venice Title &#8216;The Difficult Bride&#8217; Boards Films Boutique for Sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/films-boutique\/\" id=\"auto-tag_films-boutique\" data-tag=\"films-boutique\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Films Boutique<\/a> has boarded international sales on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/the-difficult-bride\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-difficult-bride\" data-tag=\"the-difficult-bride\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Difficult Bride<\/a>,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/rubaiyat-hossain\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rubaiyat-hossain\" data-tag=\"rubaiyat-hossain\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rubaiyat Hossain<\/a>\u2018s supernatural feminist drama selected for the Horizons competition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/venice-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice-film-festival\" data-tag=\"venice-film-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Film Festival<\/a>, where it will become the first Bangladeshi feature film to screen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe cast includes three Bangladesh National Film Award winners \u2013 Azmeri Haque Badhon, Rikita Nondine Shimu and Sunerah Kamal \u2013 alongside Zaineen Chowdhury Karim in her lead acting debut and Dameer Khan in a guest appearance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Difficult Bride\u201d unfolds at Mayfair, a longtime Dhaka beauty parlor, and follows Zaineen Chowdhury Karim\u2019s character as her wedding preparations draw her into an unsettling world shaped by beauty, faith, memory and fear. The screenplay draws on an urban legend Hossain heard as a child, about a bride who reportedly died at the salon under mysterious circumstances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPrincipal photography was in Bangladesh, with post-production completed in Paris and Lisbon. The film is Hossain\u2019s fourth feature and received post-production support from the inaugural Fondazione Prada Film Fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHossain\u2019s debut feature, \u201cMeherjaan\u201d (2011), picked up awards at the Northampton and Tiburon festivals. Her second feature, \u201cUnder Construction\u201d (2015), screened at Locarno and Stockholm. Her third feature, \u201cMade in Bangladesh\u201d (2019), premiered in Toronto\u2019s Contemporary World Cinema section, also screened at Locarno and BFI London, and brought her a first Asia Pacific Screen Award nomination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJean-Christophe Simon, CEO of Films Boutique, said: \u201cWe\u2019re particularly proud to be trusted with Rubaiyat\u2019s new film. Following the success of \u2018Made in Bangladesh,\u2019 she has created yet another genuinely unique cinematic work, that will allow for an uncompromising female character to reach audiences worldwide. Both from an esthetic and topical standpoint, her powerful and particularly entertaining movie will speak to many about the situations so many women are still confronted with, when it comes to the way patriarchal society looks at their body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Difficult Bride\u201d is produced by France\u2019s Les Films de l\u2019Apr\u00e8s-Midi, in co-production with Portugal\u2019s Midas Filmes, Bangladesh\u2019s Khona Talkies, Norway\u2019s Barentsfilm and Germany\u2019s Tandem Production. The film\u2019s producers are Fran\u00e7ois d\u2019Artemare, Pedro Borges, Rubaiyat Hossain, Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed, Ingrid Lill H\u00f8tgun and Anna Katchko. Md Shariful Islam and Kevin Chaty serve as executive producers. The film also received backing from Eurimages, France\u2019s CNC, Portugal\u2019s ICA, Norway\u2019s Sorf\u00f8nd and Germany\u2019s World Cinema Fund.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe film was shot by cinematographer Leonor Teles, who claimed the Berlin Film Festival\u2019s Golden Bear for a short film in 2016 at a younger age than any prior winner. British composer Jim Williams, whose credits include Julia Ducournau\u2019s \u201cRaw\u201d and \u201cTitane,\u201d wrote the score.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHossain said: \u201cA film is born from the long years of work, sacrifice, patience, creativity and love of many people. I am deeply grateful to our entire team, our actors, crew members, co-producers and collaborators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn 2010, Ishtiaque Zico\u2019s short film \u201c720 Degrees,\u201d produced by Khona Talkies, became the first Bangladeshi short to screen in Horizons.
