After all, they come in bite-size portions (no knife or peeler needed!), they always taste ripe and sweet, and they make a perfect accompaniment to almost any snack (I won’t eat a slice of cheese off a charcuterie board without a half of a grape sitting on top like a little hat).

I typically eat grapes about three times a week, but when I read about the surprising health benefits of grapes, I thought, Hmm, can I kick my grape game up a notch?

What Happened When I Ate Grapes Every Day

To see if I could experience any of the health benefits in a short time, I decided to try to eat an entire cup of grapes every day for a week. Now, even though I love grapes, this was a bit of a challenge! I most commonly eat grapes mixed with a cup of plain, nonfat Greek yogurt for breakfast (usually topped with some almond slices or a sprinkle of granola to give it more texture). If you have not yet tried this combo, I urge you to do so ASAP! The sweet snap of the grape combined with the tart creaminess of the yogurt is mwah, chef’s kiss!

After eating grapes every single day for a week, I can report that I felt…fine! About the same as usual! My blood pressure didn’t drop, and my skin glowed all the same. I did, however, feel my mood lifted whenever it came time for my dose of grapes.

Even though my grape experiment didn’t yield any major changes, it was a tasty way to eat more produce, something dietitians say is one of the best things you can do for your overall health.

Here are a few of my favorite grape concoctions that you might enjoy too:

• On top of my tuna sandwich: One of my go-to lunches when I’m working from home is tuna salad spread on Wasa crackers with whatever vegetables we have around chopped up on top. Delish!

• Cooked into a dinner salad: In a bold experiment, I decided to roast a batch of grapes and then mix them into a grain salad with farro, chickpeas, almonds, and a curry vinaigrette.

• Frozen! This was by far the easiest and most appealing way to eat the grapes. I rinsed off a big batch and then put them in a large plastic baggie in the freezer. This may now be my favorite late-night snack. Plus, while they’re naturally sweet, they also pack beneficial vitamins and antioxidants. Try frozen grapes to make them feel like a real treat. In fact, on the nights that I popped those delectable frozen grapes into my mouth in front of the TV, I did not crave the box of cookies hiding in my pantry or the quart of ice cream my husband keeps in the freezer.

• They can sweeten up any boring food: Honestly, if I didn’t discover the secret of adding grapes to my plain yogurt, I would probably buy flavored yogurts, which have a ton more added sugar.

• They did improve my mood! While I may not know if the grapes have successfully helped me push back cognitive decline or strengthen my bones yet, I do know that they lightened my mood.
