It\u2019s Christmas in July, and Paramount has Johnny Depp<\/a> wearing full prosthetics and a heavy coat in the middle of summer. At least it\u2019s only 80 degrees at San Diego Comic Con<\/a> this year; it beats dressing up as Jack Sparrow<\/a> in more grueling weather at Disneyland. Hundreds of fans were camped outside the Scrooge and Marley activation at SDCC<\/a> on Thursday, where Christmas carolers began singing, letting them know something was about to happen. Depp popped out as Ebenezer Scrooge to give the crowd a monologue<\/a> that was difficult to understand \u2014 but most people would expect that Scrooge said something grumpy and anti-Christmas. It\u2019s classic Scrooge. In some clips, he\u2019s seen mumbling \u201cHave you no jobs?\u201d to the crowd, who\u2019ve been waiting for hours for his arrival. Bah humbug to subtitles!<\/p>\n

Depp is playing Ebenezer Scrooge in the upcoming Ti West movie, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol<\/a>, his first mainstream Hollywood role in years after his controversial trial<\/a> with ex-wife Amber Heard. He promoted the first footage<\/a> of the movie at Cinema Con earlier this year. \u201cIt really has been an extraordinary privilege,\u201d Depp said at the time, per Variety<\/a>. \u201cI have been obsessed with since I was a little child.\u201d The film stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen and comes out on November 13.<\/p>\n
