Earth.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Xingshu, or \u201cStar Hub\u201d, will eventually comprise around 1,000 satellites, according to Chi Nan, an optical communications professor at Fudan University.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The network is being jointly developed by Fudan and Shanghai Xingshu Tiansuan Space Technology Co.<\/p>\n<p>It would offer on-demand, time-based <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3345685\/china-cant-buy-elon-musks-theory-space-based-ai-centres-experts?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">computing services in orbit<\/a>, allowing governments, researchers and companies in sectors such as energy, shipping and finance to rent computing power by the hour, Chi said at the World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference in Shanghai on Saturday.Xingshu will also combine satellite observations with <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3361108\/chinas-ai-weather-warning-system-mazu-expanding-across-global-south?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AI to provide weather forecasts<\/a>, disaster warnings, port and shipping monitoring, power grid inspections and remote-sensing services for emergency responders, meteorological agencies and natural resource authorities.The project is the latest in a series of Chinese space-computing initiatives, following the 300-satellite Tiansuan constellation led by the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and state-backed Zhejiang Lab\u2019s 1,000-satellite <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/tech-trends\/article\/3311383\/chinese-scientist-behind-supercomputer-orbit-urges-collaborative-use-ai-space?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\"
