\n\tParamount<\/a> Pictures has released the first trailer for \u201cEbenezer,\u201d starring Johnny Depp<\/a> in his first major Hollywood role since his 2022 trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.<\/p>\n

Directed by Ti West, the holiday film is described as a dark reimagining of the Charles Dickens\u2019 classic, with Depp playing the infamous Christmas grouch Ebenezer Scrooge.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe trailer shows Depp as Scrooge tormented by the terrifying spirits of Christmas, haunting him throughout the Christmas season. In the select moments he\u2019s not confronted with the harsh truths of his past, the ill-tempered man is seen spreading his hate throughout the snow-covered streets, throwing snowballs at the heads of passerby. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s good to be back,\u201d Depp says as Scrooge at the end of the trailer. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEbenezer\u201d marks Depp\u2019s first major Hollywood film since he underwent a lengthy and publicized legal battle against Heard. Heard and Depp had both accused each other of domestic abuse during their relationship, and the jury later found them both guilty of defamation. Depp was awarded $10\u00a0million in compensatory damages and $5\u00a0million in punitive damages from Heard, while Heard was awarded $2\u00a0million in compensatory damages.<\/p>\n

\n\tDepp was cut from his role as the villain Grindelwald in the third \u201cHarry Potter\u201d spinoff film \u201cFantastic Beats: The Secrets of Dumbledore\u201d and replaced by Mads Mikkelsen in 2018. Since then, Depp has appeared in international films like \u201cMinamata\u201d and \u201cJeanne du Barry,\u201d and he directed the indie title \u201cMod\u00ec, Three Days on the Wing of Madness. Now, his career has begun to bounce back with \u201cEbenezer\u201d and his casting in Lionsgate\u2019s upcoming action-thriller \u201cDay Drinker,\u201d alongside Madelyn Cline and Pen\u00e9lope Cruz.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cEbenezer\u201d cast also includes Andrea Riseborough, Tramell Tillman, Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint and Daisy Ridley. West, who is best known for his work on horror films like \u201d Pearl\u201d and \u201cMaXXXine,\u201d\u00a0told the crowd at a CinemaCon unveiling of the trailer<\/a>\u00a0that his exposure to certain \u201cA Christmas Carol\u201d adaptations were some of his earliest glimpses of the horror genre. \u201cEbenezer\u201d is in theaters on Nov. 13.<\/p>\n
