\u00c9ireann<\/a> has said hosepipe bans in place in areas in three counties, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/meath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/meath\/\">Meath<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/westmeath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/westmeath\/\">Westmeath<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\/\">Donegal<\/a>, are to remain in place when similar bans in the south and southeast expire next Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The authority said the ban on using hosepipes for tasks such as washing cars and watering gardens will remain in place for a further four weeks until October 13th, despite recent heavy rainfall across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">These extended bans specifically apply to supplies in Kells, Co Meath, Mullingar, Co Westmeath and Milford, Co Donegal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Uisce \u00c9ireann said the extensions are necessary because water levels in the lakes supplying these areas remain critically low. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">\u201cDespite recent rainfall, the long-term effects of a dry autumn, winter and spring \u2013 followed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/environment\/2025\/09\/03\/summer-of-2025-becomes-warmest-season-on-record-in-ireland\/#:~:text=Summer%20of%202025%20becomes%20warmest,in%20Ireland%20%E2%80%93%20The%20Irish%20Times\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" summer on record<\/a> \u2013 have left these sources significantly depleted,\u201d a spokesman said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">He said lakes that support the three supplies are fed by underground springs or have small catchments and can take considerably longer to recharge than other sources, meaning recovery will be slow even with wetter weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Throughout the summer, Uisce \u00c9ireann has been repairing leaks, managing pressure in the network and taking water by tankers to reservoirs. \u201cThese efforts, together with communities supporting conservation appeals, have helped to stabilise supply, but the risk of water supply disruption remains high,\u201d the spokesman said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Mair\u00e9ad Conlon, asset strategy senior manager at Uisce \u00c9ireann, warned: \u201cEven where hosepipe bans are being lifted, it\u2019s important that people continue to use water wisely.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">\u201cThe situation remains stark in several parts of the country following the warmest summer on record, and even though we are seeing a return to cooler, wetter weather, it will take several weeks or even months for those sources to demand for water in these areas have reduced the critical risk to these water sources, the authority said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Information on water
