\n\tAmerican Horror Story<\/a> season 13 details are coming into focus from the boss himself.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile promoting his latest series, The Shards, Ryan Murphy<\/a> teased to Entertainment Tonight on Monday that the highly anticipated 13th season of the FX<\/a> horror anthology will reunite fan favorites including Jessica Lange<\/a>, Evan Peters<\/a>, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett and Sarah Paulson<\/a> \u2014 and in what capacity. Although recent set photos from filming in New York City led many fans to believe the season would revisit Coven, Murphy said that\u2019s only part of the story.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEverybody thinks it\u2019s a Coven season and it\u2019s not. It\u2019s all the seasons,\u201d he said. \u201cSarah Paulson is playing six or seven roles. Jessica Lange is playing all four of her iconic characters. Evan Peters is playing five characters\u2026 It is like the Avengers. They all come together to defeat the ultimate evil.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMurphy went on to explain how he convinced several longtime stars to return, including Lange. The actress exited the series after 2014\u2019s Freak Show, aside from reprising Constance Langdon (from season one\u2019s Murder House) in 2018\u2019s Apocalypse, and has long said she had no plans to return<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs soon as I pitched it to them \u2014 many of them had said \u2018no\u2019 over the years \u2014 they were like, \u2018Well, OK, I\u2019ve gotta come back for that\u2019. But I pitched Jessica Lange and she was like, \u2018Oh shit, now I gotta do it,’\u201d Murphy said. \u201cIt\u2019s all of them in one season and it\u2019s 13 episodes because it\u2019s called \u201813\u2019. I spent many, many months and many years writing it. I wanted to do 13 in a special way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe All\u2019s Fair co-creator\u2019s comments echo the excitement among the cast themselves. Peters, one of the franchise\u2019s most recognizable stars and a frequent Murphy collaborator, previously told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> he was \u201cshocked\u201d Lange agreed to return.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRyan knows how to have those dinners. He will get you in a second. I was definitely shocked, but thrilled, honestly,\u201d he said in January.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe season also stars Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Alex Consani and Paul Anthony Kelly. Ariana Grande was originally set to make her American Horror Story debut in season 13 but exited due to scheduling conflicts<\/a> with her Eternal Sunshine tour.<\/p>\n
