We began to taper that off at the start of the month, deliberately, so that we could provide a bit more cost-of-living help.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The Labor government halved the fuel excise for three months from April in response to <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/cost-of-living-crisis\/index.html\" id=\"mol-ad04d800-8b01-11f1-935e-07216a9504e6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">rising prices<\/a> as a result of the US-Israeli war with <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/iran\/index.html\" id=\"mol-ad08f6b0-8b01-11f1-935e-07216a9504e6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Iran<\/a>, saving drivers 32 cents a litre on fuel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The measure was extended for a further month in July, but at a reduced rate of 16 cents per litre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Fresh tensions between the US and Iran have caused Brent crude oil prices to rise to more than $US100 a barrel, but the government has ruled out further relief.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Drivers have been warned petrol prices could reach more than $2 a litre as the excise discount is wound back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-827f5c0cecb6ed12\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/110288317-16012531-image-a-42_1785297576968.jpg\" height=\"424\" width=\"634\" alt=\"\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">Australians will pay more at the bowser from Monday after treasurer Jim Chalmers announced the temporary fuel excise discount will come to an end<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-772b854097f58634\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/110288823-16012531-image-a-43_1785297598144.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\" alt=\"Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said a continuation of the conflict would lead to economic pressure\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said a continuation of the conflict would lead to economic pressure<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Average prices for unleaded petrol have climbed to more than $1.80 per litre in all state capitals in recent days, up from about $1.50 at the end of June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The jump in oil prices comes as Iran-aligned Houthi militants fired on Saudi oil installations on the coast of the Red Sea and Tehran attempted to shut down shipments through the Strait of Hormuz again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">US strikes have recommenced in response to Iranian attacks on vessels travelling through the strait, a key oil transit route.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said a continuation of the conflict would lead to economic pressure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;The war is having an impact here in Australia and the longer it goes, the bigger the impact will be,&#8217;
