Chinese companies posted an average profit of US$4.5 billion in 2025, or some 40 per cent of the US$11.24 billion recorded by their US counterparts, according to the list released by Fortune magazine on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Since 2021, the average profit of Chinese companies has climbed by 27 per cent. While average profits across all 500 firms rose by 105 per cent, those of US companies jumped 110 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew wealth creation in recent years is concentrated in advanced technology and <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/big-tech\/article\/3362032\/chinese-ai-developers-may-shift-paid-weights-commercial-licensing-goldman-sachs?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">artificial intelligence<\/a>. Driven by the capital market\u2019s multiplier effect, leading American AI firms have accumulated massive wealth from asset gains,\u201d said Tang Dajie, a senior researcher at the China Enterprise Institute, a Beijing-based think tank.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cFalling profits among Chinese firms in recent years are largely an economic structural problem. New growth-driven investment is mainly led by the government, while private investment is on the decline. And soft consumption growth has hampered overall economic momentum and affected profits for traditional industries,\u201d Tang said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Amazon has become the world\u2019s top firm by revenue, ending Walmart\u2019s 12-year reign and putting the retail giant in second place, while China\u2019s State Grid retained its spot at third.
