Paul Merson has explained why he thinks Arsenal<\/a> \u201chave to\u201d sign Liverpool target Bradley Barcola after making a transfer mistake.<\/p>\n

So far this summer, Arsenal<\/strong> <\/a>have signed Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis.<\/p>\n

The Premier League holders will inevitably make more signings in the coming weeks, and it has been widely reported that their priority is to recruit a top-level winger.<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s side need an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli after selling Leandro Trossard to Besiktas, and they are linked with a wide array of potential targets.<\/p>\n

It recently emerged that the Gunners are plotting an audacious move for Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior<\/strong><\/a>, but Merson fears the forward is \u201cplaying\u201d his former club.<\/p>\n

And if they fail to sign Vinicius, Merson has explained why he reckons they \u201chave got to\u201d sign PSG star Barcola ahead of Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u201cVinicius Junior is just looking for a new contract at Real Madrid. He\u2019s playing Arsenal,\u201d Merson told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut this is where Arsenal are now. This is the market they\u2019re in.<\/p>\n

\u201cArsenal are looking to buy someone from Real Madrid, one of the top players. It just shows you where Arsenal are in the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a big worry for all the other teams in the league, in my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIf Arsenal don\u2019t get Vinicius, then they have to get Bradley Barcola.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have to get a left winger in, especially now Leandro Trossard has left. They left themselves very short in that position.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if Arsenal don\u2019t get Vinicius or Barcola, then it\u2019s a major worry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul Merson hits out at Leandro Trossard transfer mistake<\/p>\n

On Trossard leaving, Merson has argued that the Gunners have been foolish to let him leave.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor them to let Trossard go is not good business in my opinion \u2013 not for what you\u2019re selling,\u201d Merson went on.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe went for literally nothing. I can\u2019t believe that half the Premier League weren\u2019t after Trossard. He played in all the big games for Arsenal last season and he\u2019s a brilliant footballer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a lot of good players but not a lot of good footballers out there. He came under that second category.\u201d<\/p>\n
