Hearts are breaking across Co. Kildare after the tragic passing of nine year-old, Abigail Egan.<\/p>\n

Abigail, from Celbridge, passed away peacefully at home from an illness on Tuesday July 28, 2026 – she was surrounded by her loving family.<\/p>\n

As news of Abigail’s sad passing spread, friends, family members and strangers have been paying tribute to her.<\/p>\n

“We are heartbroken to share the news of Abigail Egan\u2019s passing,” wrote Celbridge Town AFC on social media.<\/p>\n

“Abigail was nine years-old and played in the Academy and Under 8 Girls team before her illness. Her best friend and little brother Ben has just graduated from the Academy, with dad Paul as coach. A minutes applause on the first weekend of the season next month will be held in Abigail\u2019s memory.”<\/p>\n

The club continued: “We extend our deepest condolences to Abigail\u2019s mam and dad, Sin\u00e9ad & Paul, and to her little brother Ben. May she rest in peace.”<\/p>\n

Celbridge GAA Club also expressed sadness at little Abigail’s passing.<\/p>\n

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of young Abigail Egan.<\/p>\n

“We send our condolences to her parents Sin\u00e9ad and Paul, her younger brother Ben, extended family and to all those who knew Abigail.<\/p>\n

“\u00c1r dheis D\u00e9 go raibh a hanam d\u00edlis,” the club said.<\/p>\n

Little Abigail’s death notice on RIP.ie reads: “With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of our beautiful, brave daughter Abigail (aged 9) who died peacefully at home on 28th July 2026, surrounded by her family.<\/p>\n

“Adored daughter of Sin\u00e9ad and Paul, and the most loved sister and best friend of Ben.<\/p>\n

“Abigail will be sadly missed and forever in the hearts of her grandparents Anthony and Mary Keating (Celbridge, Co. Kildare) and Michael and Irene Egan (Artane, Co. Dublin), her aunt Clare and her husband Craig, uncle Jonathan and his partner Sarah, her wonderful cousins Luke, Sophie, Khloe, Cara and Anna, extended family and friends.<\/p>\n

“Removal to St. Patrick\u2019s Church, Celbridge on Friday morning (31st July) arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by burial in Donacomper Cemetery, Celbridge.<\/p>\n

“Always our little angel, forever watching over us. In accordance with Abigail\u2019s family\u2019s wishes, those attending her funeral are encouraged to wear bright colours.”<\/p>\n

People have also been expressing their condolences to Abigail’s family.<\/p>\n

“So very sorry for the loss of your beautiful little girl, may she rest in peace and may the happy memories you undoubtedly have help you through this tough time,” said one woman.<\/p>\n

“Rest in peace little Angel. Your suffering is over. God Bless your family,” said another.<\/p>\n

A third person said: “I am heartbroken for you all on the passing of your most beautiful, adorable, daughter, sister, granddaughter Abigail, rest in the arms of the angels little one, you got your wings far too soon.”<\/p>\n
