{"id":61365,"date":"2025-09-13T09:28:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T09:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/61365\/"},"modified":"2025-09-13T09:28:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T09:28:07","slug":"carragher-insists-postecoglou-lucky-to-sip-from-poisoned-chalice-at-most-disliked-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/61365\/","title":{"rendered":"Carragher insists Postecoglou &#8216;lucky&#8217; to &#8216;sip from &#8216;poisoned chalice&#8217; at &#8216;most disliked&#8217; club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jamie Carragher thinks that new Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou is fortunate to be given another Premier League job after his work at Tottenham.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian was sacked by Spurs at the end of last season despite winning their first major trophy since Juande Ramos triumphed in the League Cup final in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Postecoglou guided Tottenham to victory in the Europa League final against Manchester United but their awful 17th-placed finish in the Premier League ultimately cost him his job in north London.<\/p>\n<p>Now, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/nottingham-forest\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Nottingham Forest<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s unexpected move to sack Nuno Espirito Santo just three games into the new Premier League season, Postecoglou is back in a Premier League job at the City Ground.<\/p>\n<p>And Carragher reckons Postecoglou is \u201clucky\u201d to be walking into the \u201cpoisoned chalice\u201d at Nottingham Forest under owner\u00a0Evangelos Marinakis.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/football\/2025\/09\/12\/evangelos-marinakis-nottingham-forest-fans-nuno-postecoglou\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool legend Carragher wrote in his Daily Telegraph column<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cSome might say Ange Postecoglou is sipping from a poisoned chalice making his comeback working for such a combustible owner. Postecoglou is fortunate to get another chance in the Premier League so soon after his Tottenham Hotspur sacking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat has nothing to do with Postecoglou\u2019s style of football, even though it is strange to shift so far from one extreme to another. First and foremost, Postecoglou can be considered lucky on the strength of his Premier League record. He lost 34 of his last 56 league games at Spurs. Marinakis is a walking hand grenade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFootball is not a popularity contest, and the game is more colourful when different personalities adopt contrasting approaches to get where they need to be, so long as it\u2019s within the rules.
