{"id":614819,"date":"2026-08-01T08:09:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T08:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/614819\/"},"modified":"2026-08-01T08:09:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T08:09:09","slug":"minister-noel-grealish-attended-anti-woke-conference-addressed-by-nigel-farage-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/614819\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister Noel Grealish attended \u2018anti-woke\u2019 conference addressed by Nigel Farage \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Government Minister of State for Agriculture <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/noel-grealish\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/noel-grealish\">Noel Grealish<\/a> attended a conservative political gathering in London earlier this year, cofounded by Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson and dubbed an \u201canti-woke Davos\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (Arc) gathered more than 4,000 delegates from over 75 countries, including figures from conservative and libertarian groupings, Trump administration officials, and was addressed this year by Britain\u2019s Reform leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/nigel-farage\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/nigel-farage\">Nigel Farage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It was also addressed by more mainstream figures, including British Conservative party leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kemi-badenoch\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kemi-badenoch\/\">Kemi Badenoch<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Grealish, a Galway West TD, entered Government as part of a group of Independent TDs supporting the Coalition \u2013 some of whom were rewarded with ministerial office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe department can confirm that this conference was attended in a personal capacity by Minister Grealish,\u201d said a spokesman. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The department referred queries on funding of the trip, and whether Grealish had meetings with any other attendees or speakers, to his office. A spokesman for the Independents in Government, Grealish and his Oireachtas office did not respond to queries. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Arc describes itself as an international movement \u201cwith a vision for a better world where empowered citizens take responsibility and work together\u201d. It has been referred to as an \u201canti-woke Davos\u201d by segments of the British media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Peterson, who has criticised political correctness and threats to western values, was a co-founder of the conference and listed as a member of its advisory board on its website. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a video promoting the conference in 2023, Peterson said he and others developed the concept as \u201ca vision that would be an alternative to the globalist woke utopian nightmare that threatens to engulf us all\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Other speakers promoted by the event this year included Sebastian Gorka, a senior official in the Trump administration, former British prime minister Boris Johnson, and former Australian prime ministers Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">David Quinn, the Irish social and religious commentator and chief executive of the Iona Institute, said he was due to attend the event by invitation this year but could not, although he has done so in previous years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He described the conference as a gathering of conservative or libertarian people and as broadly on the right.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWhat they\u2019d be united in would be a rejection of a general leftist or liberal leftist view of the world and would see the need to challenge that.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Quinn said this viewpoint was marginalised in Irish public debate and the event allowed access to a \u201cbigger knowledge pool\u201d and wider expertise. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Patricia Casey, a conservative commentator, professor of psychiatry and consultant psychiatrist at the Mater hospital, attended the event and said the speakers were \u201cpublic intellectuals who all have the capacity to make strong arguments for their position\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Casey, who is also a patron of the Iona Institute, said the event was \u201cdefinitely right of centre politically\u201d and that the themes \u201cgenerally focused on breakdown in social cohesion and how that can be restored and the changing face of society more generally in respect of attitudes, values and the arts\u201d. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Government Minister of State for Agriculture Noel Grealish attended a conservative political gathering in London earlier this year,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":614820,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[41],"tags":[30417,9,10,13,14,3428,6,18028,11,12,15,16,5,20567,5284,7,8,65,66,67],"class_list":["post-614819","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-world","tag-boris-johnson","tag-breaking-news","tag-breakingnews","tag-featured-news","tag-featurednews","tag-government","tag-headlines","tag-kemi-badenoch","tag-latest-news","tag-latestnews","tag-main-news","tag-mainnews","tag-news","tag-nigel-farage","tag-noel-grealish","tag-top-stories","tag-topstories","tag-world","tag-world-news","tag-worldnews"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@ie\/117019237873191330","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/614819","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=614819"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/614819\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/614820"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=614819"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=614819"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=614819"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
