With\u00a0Barbie\u00a0seeing if it can theatrically return<\/a> and a Matchbox\u00a0movie<\/a> months away, another toy line\u2019s stepped up for adaptation. Our latest candidate is Action Man,\u00a0a line of toys famous over in the UK.<\/p>\n

Per the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Hasbro and studio Working Title are working on an adaptation. Handling the script are Marvel alums Anthony Seliitti<\/a> and Simon Hatt<\/a>. The former is on X-Men \u201997,\u00a0where he\u2019s written several episodes\u2014including season one\u2019s three-part finale, and season two\u2019s Wolverine-focused adventure\u2014and the latter\u2019s been a producer on the\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy\u00a0sequels,\u00a0Peacemaker,\u00a0and\u00a0The Suicide Squad.<\/p>\n

Created by British toy company Palitoy in 1966,\u00a0Action Man\u00a0is a licensed copy of\u00a0G.I. Joe<\/a>,\u00a0with early toys named after masculine jobs like \u201cSoldier,\u201d \u201cSailor,\u201d and \u201cPilot.\u201d (Just imagine \u201cAction\u201d placed before each of them.) Designed more toward British sensibilities, the original line ran until 1984, competing in its early years against similar toys like the higher-quality Tommy Gunn.\u00a0The 90s saw Hasbro relaunch\u00a0Action\u00a0that leaned more toward an adventurer angle with a UK-exclusive animated series.<\/p>\n

Way back in 2012, after the initial\u00a0Transformers\u00a0movie trilogy wrapped, Hasbro was hoping to make Action Man\u00a0another of its properties<\/a> to get a film. Those plans fell apart throughout the decade, fizzling out after 2018<\/a> while Paramount looked to relaunching\u00a0<\/a>Transformers<\/a>\u00a0and trying to do something<\/a> with\u00a0G.I. Joe (several times<\/a>). But with toy adaptations gradually on the rise again<\/a>, and James Bond still cinematically MIA<\/a>, Hasbro\u2019s jumping on both moments while it can.<\/p>\n
