Ozlo announced Sleepbuds 2, a new generation of ultra-small earbuds designed specifically for sleep, as the category continues to develop into a dedicated wearable audio segment. The second model from the brand combines a low-profile side-sleeper form factor, noise-masking playback rather than active noise cancellation, up to 14 hours of battery life, sleep-specific audio tuning, and modes that transition from streaming content to masking sounds overnight.<\/p>\n

\nFollowing a promising start in 2025, Ozlo launched the Sleepbuds backed by an impressive $6 million raised through Indiegogo\u2019s InDemand program, and the promise to revolutionize sleep technology with ultra-comfortable, feature-rich earbuds designed to deliver the best sleep imaginable. Now market tested, these sleep-earbuds are relaunched with improved features and aiming to redefine their category.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2022, and headquartered in Boston, MA, Ozlo was co-founded by a team of experienced Bose employees, motivated by the discontinuation of the original Bose Sleepbuds: N.B. Patil (CEO and CTO), Brian Mulcahey (COO, now Advisor), and Charles Taylor (product manager and licensing specialist). Patil spent more than 20 years at Bose; Mulcahey led Bose\u2019s sleep business; and Taylor had been involved in Bose\u2019s new business and software\/product efforts.<\/p>\n

Focused on better sleep, and backed by a portfolio of 109 awarded patents spanning sleep and audio innovation (mostly acquired and licensed Bose sleep-tech IP), Ozlo tested its first crowdfunded concept at the same time as several other companies and suffered the earlier pains of outsourced manufacturing, with products affected by inconsistencies in charging and Bluetooth connectivity. But so did their competitors, many of them simply selling smaller versions of true-wireless earbuds, or cheaper but dumb passive cancelation buds. This inspired the team to push forward with a second-generation product, adding features that might propel the category.

\nOzlo launched Sleepbuds 2 meticulously designed solely for sleep and using noise masking technology to help reduce disruptions such as snoring, city noise, and other nighttime disturbances. The goal is to create a more stable and natural sound environment for uninterrupted rest, while the user is lying down, changing sleep position, and trying to remain undisturbed by a partner, traffic, neighbors, hotel noise, cabin noise, notifications, or the user\u2019s own bedtime audio habits. That changes the design priorities to comfort, masking stability, passive isolation, battery endurance, low-distraction controls, and sleep-environment awareness.<\/p>\n

On its product page, Ozlo describes Sleepbuds 2 as the world\u2019s smallest earbuds designed for sleep and details each earbud at just 1.6g. The acoustic approach is to use noise masking rather than active noise cancellation. Ozlo\u2019s explanation is that Sleepbuds combine a passive seal from the silicone tips with soft, consistent sounds designed to cover unwanted noise such as snoring, voices, traffic, and sudden disturbances. Not using ANC also allows extending the small battery for Bluetooth streaming.\u00a0

\nUsers can fall asleep to music, podcasts, audiobooks, or other Bluetooth audio, then transition to built-in masking sounds. Ozlo says the new Personalized Sleep Modes allow users to choose whether that transition happens when the earbuds detect sleep, after a timer, or when streaming stops. For a lower-distraction setup, Sleep Sounds also feature on-board noise-masking content, once the earbuds are configured without an active Bluetooth connection.<\/p>\n

The new generation adds Sleep Shield, which Ozlo says blocks disruptions from incoming calls, alerts, notifications, and Bluetooth audio streaming. This is a small feature with larger design implications. A sleep earbud that can stream general content also has to protect the user from the phone ecosystem that usually comes with streaming. In that sense, Sleep Shield turns interruption management into part of the audio architecture, not just an app preference.<\/p>\n

Ozlo also updated the Bluetooth connectivity and redesigned the audio system. The company says Sleepbuds 2 use a super-efficient, custom audio amplifier paired with a new balanced armature driver for stronger masking performance, richer sound quality, and substantially higher volume than the original Sleepbuds. The product specifications also list a sleep-tailored audio EQ, and volume-dependent spectral balancing.

\nOzlo also designed Sleepbuds 2 and the Smart Charging Case to work together to track sleep and environmental conditions throughout the night. The earbuds are able to monitor movement and breathing, while the case tracks room conditions with sound, light, and temperature sensors to support Sleep Patterns, a feature that gives users a view into sleep length, quality, and consistency over time. Focusing also on privacy, Ozlo states that the Sleepbuds 2 offer an in-ear alarm, and that the charging case includes a microphone only to assess environmental noise levels, while the earbuds themselves do not support calls.<\/p>\n

Sleepbuds 2 are available now from Ozlo, with pricing starting at $279. The package includes the earbuds, four sizes of silicone ear tips, the Smart Charging Case, and a USB-C cable. Ozlo is also offering a launch bundle with a sleep mask and travel case. The battery life varies by use, configuration, environment, feature settings, audio content, volume level, Bluetooth use, battery age, and charging history.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Are sleep earbuds becoming a new category of integrated nighttime smart systems? The new sleep-focused earbuds also offer sensor-driven sleep insights and interruption control, resulting from a collaboration with IDUN Technologies<\/a>, the Swiss neurotech company that is exploring brain-sensing features. The sensing strategy and app logic all have to support the same use case: maintaining a stable overnight listening environment without adding new friction to sleep.
