Billie Eilish has completely transformed into character on the set of her very first feature film, The Bell Jar.<\/p>\n
The singer was nearly unrecognisable as she was seen on the Toronto set of the upcoming drama, which is based on author Sylvia Plath\u2019s beloved 1963 novel of the same name.<\/p>\n
The film is based on Plath\u2019s semi-autobiographical book which tells the story of Esther Greenwood, the aspiring young writer at the centre of the novel who navigates ambition, identity and mental health struggles after landing a magazine internship in 1950s New York.<\/p>\n
Eilish steps into the lead role Esther and embodies the \u201850s facade well with her pearl earrings and vintage-inspired outfit featuring a red short-sleeve sweater and pleated skirt. <\/p>\n
The Grammy winner nails the glam too with her bright red lipstick, as her usually dark locks are lightened to an auburn hue and pinned in a mid-century fashion. <\/p>\n
First-look images of Eilish in character also show her walking on a street alongside women dressed in similarly bright vintage outfits as they try to replicate a bustling New York City in the series, which also stars Carey Mulligan as Esther\u2019s mother Mrs. Greenwood.<\/p>\n
While The Bell Jar marks Eilish\u2019s first feature film acting role, she technically made her acting debut in 2023 in the Prime Video horror-comedy series Swarm.<\/p>\n
Eilish starred in one episode on the series, playing a charming yet chilling leader of an all-female empowerment cult named Eva, who lures main character Dre (Dominique Fishback) into her dark web.<\/p>\n
Although she comes from an acting family \u2013 her parents are actors Maggie Baird and Patrick O\u2019Connell \u2013 and grew up acting in plays, Eilish said she was worried making the transition from the stage to the screen. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t wanna do this anymore,\u2019\u201d she said of her acting dreams. <\/p>\n
\u201cI did, but it\u2019s always been a deep thing that I\u2019ve been reluctant to talk about because I thought I was really bad.\u201d<\/p>\n
If the acting thing doesn’t work out, Eilish can relax knowing she already has two Oscars on her mantle.<\/p>\n
The singer won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2022 for No Time to Die from the James Bond film of the same name, and again took home the little gold man at the 2024 ceremony, winning for What Was I Made For? from the Barbie movie. <\/p>\n
She won the awards together with her brother and collaborator Finneas, with the siblings making history by becoming the youngest two-time Oscar winners ever \u2013 Eilish was 22 and Finneas was 26 at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a nightmare about this last night,\u201d Eilish joked during her acceptance speech in 2024. \u201cI just didn\u2019t think this would happen. I wasn\u2019t expecting this.
