There was a shock development on Mohamed Salah’s future in recent days, with the Egyptian superstar announcing a move to Turkish club Trabzonspor.<\/p>\n

It was known for a number of months that Salah would be available on a free transfer this summer after his exit from Liverpool<\/a>. However, there had been little indication as to what his next destination would be.<\/p>\n

Many assumed he would make the move to Saudi Arabia, with clubs in that league having pursued the winger for the last couple of seasons. Others thought he would accept less money in order to remain in a major European league.<\/p>\n

As a result, quite a few eyebrows were raised when it was announced that Salah had joined the club who finished third in Turkey last season.<\/p>\n

Jamie Carragher has been critical of Mohamed Salah’s play at times<\/a> over the last 12 months, but even he was surprised to see him join a club in the Turkish league.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Football Ramble, he said Salah missed out on one obvious destination by taking the big financial offer from Trabzonspor.<\/p>\n

I never believed he was going to Saudi. He’s too good for that.<\/p>\n

I was convinced he’d end up at like an AC Milan or Juventus, maybe his wages were a problem or something like that.<\/p>\n

I don’t know him, obviously I’ve never spoken with him. But he’s like Ronaldo, isn’t he? He’s so driven and his numbers mean so much to him. He can still do this in Turkey by the way.<\/p>\n

But I thought he would want to still play at a real prestigious club. Obviously his wage demands have probably put a few people off.<\/p>\n

I thought he might curb those demands a little bit to get a better club. Go to an AC Milan or Juventus, you’re still playing in the San Siro, still playing in Europe.<\/p>\n

Him in Turkey, I just think he’s better than that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Mohamed Salah set for huge Turkey payday<\/strong><\/p>\n

It has been reported that Momahed Salah is set to earn an annual salary of around \u00a320million per year in Turkey, a figure that few clubs in European football would be capable of matching.<\/p>\n

As Carragher points out, it had been thought that the player may have been willing to accept a lesser pay package in order to remain at the top level.<\/p>\n

It is certainly an interesting decision, one very few would have predicted just a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n
