Climate Activist Greta Thunberg took some time out from her global travels to sample the food at Izz Cafe yesterday, as she spent several days in and around Cork City.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Swedish activist, who shot to global fame in 2019 when she addressed the United Nation’s Climate Action Summit, has also been a strong supporter of the Palestinian people in recent years. And while in Cork, she became the latest famous face to drop by the Palestinian cafe on George’s Quay, which has also recently welcomed the likes of Belfast rappers Kneecap<\/a> and Irish actor Robert Sheehan, who has a house in Skibbereen.<\/a><\/p>\n

Thunberg had made an appearance at the All Togther Now<\/strong> festival at the Curraghmore Estate, Co Waterford last weekend, and had then travelled on to Cork, where she was spotted strolling around over the past few days, doing a bit of shopping and sight-seeing.<\/p>\n

Izz Cafe looked like a natural choice for lunch for Greta, the multi-award-winning cafe on the quays has drawn visitors from all over the world, famous and not so famous.<\/p>\n

Owners Izz and Eman came to Ireland as refugees, stayed in Direct Provision and built their business from what started out as a small stall at food markets around the city. The pair have also been very vocal about their support for Palestine since the war in Gaza started in October 2023, appearing on TV reports that have been broadcast around the world.<\/p>\n

Posting a pic to their Instagram,<\/a> they said: “It was an incredible honour to host Greta Thunberg at our little cafe. Her humility and kindness is an inspiration.”<\/p>\n

Greta has 17m followers on her own Instagram account, making her one of the most followed people on social media and a global influencer. In 2019, she posted her support for a young West Cork schoolkid <\/a>who had been inspired by her to start their own campaign for climate justice.<\/p>\n

A few years later, Saoi O\u2019Connor was awarded the prestigious Young Humanitarian of the Year award<\/a> in the annual Irish Red Cross Humanitarian Awards.<\/p>\n
