\n\tA year after Kristen Stewart<\/a> made her directorial debut<\/a> with The Chronology of Water, it\u2019s now her wife\u2019s turn, as Dylan Meyer<\/a> writes and directs new stoner comedy The Wrong Girls. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie stars Stewart and Alia Shawkat<\/a> as codependent, marijuana-loving best friends who get caught in a case of mistaken identity that throws their lives into chaos. It\u2019s been in the works<\/a> for over a decade, and is actually what brought the couple together in the first place. <\/p>\n

\n\tMeyer told The Hollywood Reporter at the film\u2019s L.A. premiere on Wednesday that she \u201cwrote this movie about my best friend and I getting stoned in our house, and then it took a long time to convince people that that was worthy of being a movie.\u201d In those early days, she sent Stewart \u201cthis script when we first met so long ago, because I always knew she was the right person to be in this movie. But then we stopped communicating. We didn\u2019t really know each other, so I was like \u2018Oh, there that is.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe filmmaker continued, \u201cThen when we were together, we were falling in love and sharing all the stuff that we were excited about, and we were working on, and she was like, \u2018I want to be in this movie.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018That movie\u2019s kind of expensive, I don\u2019t know, that\u2019s kind of over here.\u2019 And she was like, \u2018No, I want to be in this movie and you will direct this movie and this is what we\u2019re going to do.\u2019 And her confidence really pushed me to get over some of my own imposter syndrome about doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFor her side, Stewart admitted, \u201cI probably should have read it many years ago when she sent it to me but then we hung out and I was like, \u2018You\u2019re the coolest person I\u2019ve ever met, what are you doing?\u2019 And she was like, \u2018Well, what I want to do is this.\u2019 And she\u2019s just my favorite writer and this movie is wish fulfillment, mega-time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAnd in a genre that dudes have largely dominated, Stewart noted of their take on the stoner comedy, \u201cI think it\u2019s really obvious that we want to have fun with our girlfriends and lack aspiration but aspire to compassion and just want to get high and laugh all day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie also features a star-studded cast that includes Geena Davis, LaKeith Stanfield, Kate McKinnon, Kumail Nanjiani\u00a0and Seth Rogen<\/a>, with the latter producing through his Point Grey Pictures as well. Stewart teased that after watching Rogen\u2019s stoner performances \u201cover the years, there\u2019s no way I didn\u2019t deliver a few lines just subconsciously\u201d in his style. But Shawkat added that Stewart didn\u2019t need much of Rogen\u2019s input: \u201cShe\u2019s teaching us all how to be good stoners and save the world.\u201d <\/p>\n
