{"id":624622,"date":"2026-08-07T02:48:25","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T02:48:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/624622\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T02:48:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T02:48:25","slug":"taoiseach-defends-new-government-jet-amid-reports-israeli-made-navigational-tool-omitted-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/624622\/","title":{"rendered":"Taoiseach defends new Government jet amid reports Israeli-made navigational tool omitted \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Taoiseach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/micheal-martin\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/micheal-martin\/\">Miche\u00e1l Martin<\/a> has stopped short of denying reports that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/government\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/government\/\">Government<\/a> has ordered a jet for Ministers and officials that could face difficulties landing because it does not have an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/israel\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/israel\/\">Israeli<\/a>-made navigational system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Journal website reported at the weekend that the Dassault Falcon 6X jet was ordered without a navigational system made by the Israeli company Elbit, which may cause difficulties landing in fog and bad weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Government has been vocal in its criticisms of Israel\u2019s military operation in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/gaza-strip\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/gaza-strip\/\">Gaza<\/a>, which has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians, with Martin among those labelling it a \u201cgenocide\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Taoiseach stopped short of issuing a denial of the report but insisted there were no issues with the jet. He was speaking as he visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/belfast\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/belfast\/\">Belfast<\/a> on Thursday for the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fleadh-cheoil-na-heireann\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fleadh-cheoil-na-heireann\/\">Fleadh Cheoil na h\u00c9ireann<\/a> to be hosted in the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI think we need to be careful of these stories, you know, who\u2019s feeding them into the ether? Why?\u201d he said in response to a question about whether technology was omitted from the jet because it was made by an Israeli company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Martin added: \u201cThe jet has been very effective since we procured it.\u201d He said the jet \u201ctook a long while to procure\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt gives us strategic reach in terms of citizens who could be in difficulty, evacuation of people, medical evacuation, as well as flying government to various meetings, has far greater reach than we ever had before, in terms of the US, for example.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cSo we have it now well over six months. It\u2019s been particularly effective in the lead into the presidency [of the Council of the European Union] and during the presidency. So, there are no issues with it at all, as far as we\u2019re concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Meanwhile, Martin has said there was \u201cnothing confirmed\u201d in relation to the possible visit of US president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> to Ireland for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-open\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-open\/\">Irish Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Trump International Golf Links &amp;
