Some 40 garda\u00ed, including armed members, executed raids on four properties in Co Cavan to arrest three men (30s) as part of an operation targeting organised crime.<\/p>\n
The arrests are connected to Garda investigations into two \u201cserious\u201d assaults on three men in Cullyleenan, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.<\/p>\n
The two incidents are understood to be linked to a localised dispute between organised family groups.<\/p>\n
The first alleged assault \u2013 in the early hours of Sunday, August 2nd \u2013 left two men in their 30s with \u201cserious, but non-life-threatening\u201d injuries, said An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na. The pair were brought to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
Three days later \u2013 in the evening of August 5th \u2013 another man in his 30s was assaulted in the same area.<\/p>\n
The incident, which the force said took place \u201coutside a commercial premises\u201d, resulted in the man being hospitalised in Cavan General Hospital.<\/p>\n
Due to the nature of the incidents, it is understood garda\u00ed began investigating the two incidents for connections to organised crime.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Cavan garda\u00ed from various units with the support of the Armed Support Unit carried out a search and arrest operation in west Cavan.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed were involved in the searches of four separate addresses in the area.<\/p>\n
The searches were part of an \u201congoing investigation into organised criminal activity\u201d resulted in the three men, all in their 30s, being arrested.<\/p>\n
