Friday it would establish border controls for flights \u200cand ships from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/italy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/italy\/\">Italy<\/a> from midnight on Saturday until September 7th in \u200ba dispute with the neighbouring country over irregular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/migrant-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/migrant-crisis\">migration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Passport, nationality and visa checks would be conducted for Italian passengers and visitors \u200bfrom other countries arriving from Italy \u201camid the persistent irregular migratory pressure\u201d from \u2060the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Spain said the measures would apply while \u200cItaly \u200capplied \u200bits own measures which it said were motivated by the mass migration rush by \u206072,000 people on \u200bSpain\u2019s African enclave of \u200bCeuta on July 30th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Earlier on Friday, Italy said it \u200cwould not bow to \u201cultimatums or \u200bimpositions\u201d from Spain and would maintain border controls on \u2060arrivals from the \u2060country until \u200bat least August 15th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Spain threatened earlier on Friday to impose reciprocal measures on travellers from Italy unless Rome lifted by Sunday the border controls it imposed last week, following the mass influx of migrants from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/morocco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/morocco\">Morocco<\/a> into Ceuta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a \u2060statement, the Italian government said it would only reconsider its
