Set on nearly 1.5 acres in Malibu Park, actor Seann William Scott\u2019s gated compound has direct views of surfing mecca Zuma Beach. The American Pie actor, who currently stars in ABC sitcom Shifting Gears, originally bought the Balinese-inspired property 22 years ago and has since overseen a major refresh that brought a Southern California sensibility to the interiors, which now feature soaring timber ceilings and large expanses of stone and glass. Dubbed the Vanaya House,<\/a> the roughly 4,200-square-foot retreat comes with five bedrooms, while the grounds feature a swimming pool, full-size tennis court, and lily pond. Originally listed for $17.85 million, the home is now asking $17.5 million<\/a> with Sam Plouchart of Christie\u2019s International Real Estate Southern California.<\/a><\/p>\n

Pioneering chef Julia Child is widely credited with bringing French cuisine into American households through her best-selling debut cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and breakthrough television series, The French Chef. Combined with her relatable personality and unfussy approach, Child catapulted to stardom in the early 1960s.<\/p>\n

Two decades later, the chef and author had firmly cemented her status as a culinary icon\u2014and debuted Dinner at Julia\u2019s, a distinctly American, 12-episode PBS series<\/a> filmed at a rented ranch in Southern California. Though extensively remodeled, the property (which Child never owned) is now on the market<\/a> for just under $22 million.<\/p>\n

A sprawling North Texas homestead with presidential ties just hit the market for $21.5 million. Dubbed Rolling R Ranch,<\/a> the roughly 1,300-acre property has been owned by the grandson of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and first lady Eleanor Roosevelt since 1999. It wasn\u2019t always so large: Elliott \u201cTony\u201d Roosevelt Jr., a Dallas-based oilman, started with 150 acres and gradually expanded the ranch to its present size.<\/p>\n

He also built two permanent structures on the property: The first was a 2,800-square-foot \u201cbarndominium\u201d-style residence in 2001. The top floor contains four bedrooms, while the lower level has a four-stall horse barn and workshop.<\/p>\n

The Canadian-born folk music artist who rose to fame in the 1960s and \u201970s with hits like \u201cBig Yellow Taxi\u201d and \u201cWoodstock,\u201d Joni Mitchell solidified herself as a California icon with her 1971 album Blue. By the mid-1970s, she had settled into a Spanish Colonial home in Bel Air\u2014but the beach beckoned. Mitchell acquired an oceanfront parcel in the gated Malibu Colony and tapped architect Ron Goldman to build her a home that was completed in 1982. Now, the 4,000-square-foot retreat is on the market for the first time in decades, with an asking price of just under $27 million.<\/a><\/p>\n

This 2.4-acre waterfront property is angling to become the most expensive home ever sold in Maine. Known as Staples Point, the Cape Elizabeth residence is the state\u2019s most expensive current listing, at $16.5 million<\/a> with Sam Michaud of Legacy Properties Sotheby\u2019s International Realty. Conceived by the Maine firm Waltman Architectural Design<\/a> and completed in 2016, the roughly 7,400-square-foot home recalls the majestic shingle-clad estates of the Hamptons. Thanks to its coastal setting, five lighthouses are visible from the three-story house, which has seven bedrooms, six full baths, and a wood-paneled sauna on the top floor.<\/p>\n
