{"id":626666,"date":"2026-08-08T07:11:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T07:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/626666\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T07:11:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T07:11:33","slug":"nancy-guthrie-search-reignited-by-fbi-after-monsoon-moved-the-environment-in-her-neighborhood-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/626666\/","title":{"rendered":"Nancy Guthrie search reignited by FBI after monsoon &#8216;moved the environment&#8217; in her neighborhood: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TUCSON, Ariz. \u2014 A neighbor of\u00a0Nancy Guthrie\u2019s\u00a0in the Catalina Foothills tells Fox News Digital she saw the FBI return to search the brush behind the missing 84-year-old\u2019s home days before her <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/02\/us-news\/bungling-nancy-guthrie-probers-ignored-blood-on-porch-thinking-it-was-unrelated-and-opened-crime-scene-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unsolved disappearance reached the six-month mark.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department said that no task force investigators had returned to the area recently, the neighbor said she recognized faces from earlier law enforcement activity in the neighborhood connected to the case. The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The neighbor, who lives just a few doors down, reported seeing them combing through the desert brush.<\/p>\n<p>Guthrie, the mother of \u201cToday\u201d co-host\u00a0Savannah Guthrie, is believed to have been<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/01\/us-news\/savannah-guthrie-marks-6-month-anniversary-of-mom-nancys-disappearance-with-painful-plea-to-kidnappers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> taken by force from her home in the early hours of Feb. 1<\/a>, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Krygier, a retired Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department lieutenant and former SWAT commander, said there are a few reasons why investigators would return to the area, ranging from new leads to the chance that evidence has been shifted around by recent weather.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a couple of different reasons that go through my mind first is going to be they got some leads, they got some new tips that are viable, and they\u2019re out there looking for something specific or in an area specific to that, because I\u2019m certain that they\u2019ve searched those areas already,\u201d he told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>It could also be that, six months into the investigation, authorities are putting a fresh set of eyes on the case, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI has reportedly returned to Tucson to continue the search for Nancy Guthrie after a monsoon changed the environment near her home. Andy Johnstone for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>And heavy rains may also have altered the landscape, potentially exposing or moving evidence investigators hadn\u2019t previously seen, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout a month ago,\u00a0monsoon season\u00a0started here in Tucson and a lot of water has come down \u2014 a lot of water at once, and it pushes things,\u201d he said. \u201cSo it\u2019s moved the environment. Rocks have been pushed away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the area,\u00a0floodwaters\u00a0can rise from just a few inches to as much as 12 feet, Krygier said, with enough force to sweep away vehicles, trees, rocks and even people.<\/p>\n<p>FBI agents going speaking with Guthrie\u2019s neighbors shortly after her disappearance. Andy Johnstone for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure if they found him yet, but there was a report of a man in the wash floating down, being pushed downstream by the water \u2014 and the Santa Cruz is what that feeds into, which is, you\u2019re looking at 20, 30 feet deep when it\u2019s at its peak and 50, 60 feet across,\u201d he said. \u201cAll that water, it\u2019s rushing fast, and it\u2019s taken not only the people, but it\u2019s taken cars, it\u2019s taken trees, branches, rocks, all of this stuff, and basically turned into a big blender.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Authorities did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos\u00a0told Fox News Digital last week that investigators are still following up on active leads, reviewing \u201ctens of thousands\u201d of videos and do not consider the case cold.<\/p>\n<p>An FBI tent outside of Guthrie\u2019s home during the initial search on Feb. 12, 2026. BACKGRID<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, his office also <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/03\/us-news\/nancy-guthrie-ransom-notes-were-written-by-two-different-people-expert-claims\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">released a pair of\u00a0purported ransom notes\u00a0in the case<\/a>, in the hope that someone in the public can help identify the sender\u2019s \u201cunique linguistic style.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
