Just outside the village of S\u00e3o Miguel de Machede, Herdade da Toura is a restored Alentejo farmhouse, or monte, that retains the proportions, materials and character of the original estate.<\/a><\/p>\n

The four-bedroom house measures 215 square metres, with thick, lime-rendered walls, exposed-timber ceilings and traditional terracotta <\/a>roof tiles that set off black slate and microcement floors. Insulation, plumbing and electrics have been updated, while the original plan and building fabric remain intact.<\/p>\n

Outside, a white pool terrace, steel pergola and outdoor kitchen sit among cork oaks, olive trees and orchards of fig, almond, pomegranate and mandarin. The estate also includes a 101sqm annex, solar panels and five boreholes.<\/p>\n

The lane outside forms part of the Caminho de Santiago pilgrimage route, while the UNESCO World Heritage city of \u00c9vora beckons 20 minutes away. Herdade da Toura is on the market through Fantastic Frank for \u20ac825,000.<\/a><\/p>\n
