Michael Carrick admitted he had to be \u201ccareful\u201d with Mason Mount after the England midfielder handed Manchester United an injury scare in their friendly draw with Paris St Germain.<\/p>\n
Mount has had a torrid time with injuries since signing from Chelsea in a \u00a355million deal three years ago, starting only 25 Premier League games for United in that time.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old has been successfully deployed by Carrick in a central midfield role during pre-season, leading to speculation that United may not make another expected signing in that department.<\/p>\n
But Mount played only 18 minutes of Saturday\u2019s 1-1 draw against the European champions in Gothenburg before being replaced by Scotland international Tyler Fletcher.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe (Mount) got kicked. We just wanted to be careful and look after him,\u201d United head coach Carrick told reporters in Sweden.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful.\u201d Post-match video footage showed Mount walking freely on to the United bus without the aid of a protective boot or knee support.<\/p>\n
United were stunned within two minutes at the Ullevi Stadium when Liverpool target Ibrahim Mbaye punished slack marking to put PSG ahead.<\/p>\n
Bryan Mbeumo fired United level after 32 minutes following good work from Amad Diallo, the Cameroon forward\u2019s third goal in two games after his match-winning double against Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n
United meet Leeds in Dublin on Wednesday and come up against AC Milan and former manager Ruben Amorim next Saturday before their Premier League opener at Hull on August 22.<\/p>\n
Summer signing Youri Tielemans made his United bow in Gothenburg, coming on for the final 26 minutes.<\/p>\n
Carrick confirmed that he will have a full squad in Dublin, meaning that Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford and Matheus Cunha will all be available.<\/p>\n
England striker Rashford has not played for United since December 12, 2024, during which time he has had loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona.<\/p>\n
Carrick said: \u201cI\u2019ve played with him. I played in the game he made his debut, so we have a history.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have got a full squad this week in Dublin. We fly straight there and have a few days where we have the whole group back together. Marcus is part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
