It seemed as though the 37-year old would continue his playing career elsewhere, still holding ambitions to continue his international career with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balls.ie\/football\/tag\/republic-of-ireland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ireland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, with the start of the 2025\/26 season only a matter of days away, Coleman is yet to sign for a new club.<\/p>\n<p>While his future in professional football seems very much up in the air at the moment, there are rumours that Seamus Coleman could be about to make a shock return to Donegal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balls.ie\/gaa\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GAA<\/a> circles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seamus Coleman could be set for Donegal GAA return<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seamus Coleman was a talented GAA player in his youth, starring for club side Killybegs before opting to focus full time on soccer.<\/p>\n<p>He has said in the past that he would love to return to the sport after his pro career had finished, but it seems as though that move could come sooner than expected.<\/p>\n<p>\n        Recommended\n    <\/p>\n<p>                        <a :href=\"https:\/\/www.balls.ie\/gaa\/article.url\" :title=\"article.title\" :aria-label=\"article.title\" class=\"not-prose col-span-2 md:col-span-1 ga-event\" data-category=\"Recommended Article Tracker\" data-action=\"click\" :data-label=\"https:\/\/www.balls.ie\/gaa\/article.url\" :data-value=\"https:\/\/www.balls.ie\/gaa\/article.url\"><\/p>\n<p>                                            <img class=\"aspect-video\" width=\"130\" height=\"73\" :src=\"https:\/\/www.balls.ie\/gaa\/article.image\" :alt=\"'Image for: ' + article.title\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                        <\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are rumours doing the rounds that Seamus Coleman could line out for Killybegs in their Donegal Senior Football Championship clash against Four Masters on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Massive news reaching me this morning that Seamus Coleman is very possibly starting for Killybegs in <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/officialdonegal?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">@officialdonegal<\/a> SFC against Four Masters today in Donegal Town. Has trained with them over the last couple of weeks. The rumours of Coleman&#8217;s inclusion is sure to result in a bit of extra gate money for the county board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seamus Coleman has strong Donegal GAA pedigree<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seamus Coleman was a flying right back in his prime for Ireland and Everton, so it is perhaps no surprise to learn that he excelled in the halfback line during his time in the GAA.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/more-sports\/gaelic-football\/news\/30553\/12129855\/seamus-coleman-reveals-his-favourite-donegal-player-and-his-preferred-position-in-gaa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Speaking<\/a> back in 2020, he said the centre-back position was his &#8216;bread and butter&#8217;. He also recalled coming up against Donegal great Michael Murphy at underage level.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Number 6, half-back was my bread and butter.<\/p>\n<p>I really, really enjoyed it. I loved the defending side of being a centre-half back, and getting forward when I can. I&#8217;d always be disappointed if I didn&#8217;t chip in with a couple of points at least. But centre-half back&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I did mark [Michael Murphy], at some county trials game or something. I did mark him back in the day.
